The UIC Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the Assistant Coach – Director of Brand Strategy & Player Innovation This position develops and implements a comprehensive name, image and likeness (NIL) program to assist men’s basketball student-athletes with brand management, marketability, content creation, social activism education and adherence to institutional, conference, NCAA and state regulations. Directs brand strategy for men’s basketball program, including digital and print materials to enhance recruiting and engage fans.
Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)
•Serve as the program’s foremost expert on NIL legislation, policies and procedures, and strategic opportunities for the benefit of the men’s basketball program and its student-athletes.
•Serve as liaison for the men’s basketball program with athletic compliance and UIC’s NIL working group to ensure NIL opportunities are managed in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures.
•Promote a culture of compliance within the men’s basketball program related to NIL activities.
•Educate, advise and assist men’s basketball student-athletes in cultivating their personal brands and enhancing their marketability to maximize NIL and career opportunities.
•Coordinate comprehensive educational efforts for NIL opportunities for men’s basketball student- athletes, in partnership with athletic compliance and the Director for Student Development.
•Facilitate internship and post-graduate career opportunities for men’s basketball student-athletes, in partnership with the Director for Student Development.
•Direct content creation and distribution through all men’s basketball social media channels to enhance the UIC basketball brand and engage fans, recruits and other stakeholders, working in partnership with athletics external operations staff.
•Deliver compelling programming and content that maximizes recruiting engagement for the men’s basketball program on a local, national and global scale.
•Ensure the men’s basketball program consistently stewards the UIC brand across all digital and print materials, in collaboration with the Director for Brand Strategy and the marketing department.
•Coordinate digital and print materials for men’s basketball recruiting efforts; assist with on-campus recruiting activities.
•Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, sports administration or related field required. Masters degree preferred.
Demonstrated experience in collegiate basketball environment.
Demonstrated ability to productively engage with athletics administrators, coaches, student-athletes, boosters, faculty and institutional, conference and NCAA personnel.
Demonstrated ability to balance multiple initiatives, problem-solve and exercise sound judgement.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
A commitment to the overall wellbeing of student-athletes. A commitment to integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
Division I men’s basketball experience preferred. Working knowledge of Teamworks, ARMS and similar communications and workflow platforms preferred.
