The Communication Specialist for Cinematic Arts serves as the main channel to promote cinematic arts content and events across all media platforms to unique constituencies. This includes managing the department website, social media sites, gathering and creating video and print content, creating marketing materials, producing and promoting department events, outreach to prospective high schools, and overseeing student workers. The coordinator interacts daily with department faculty, staff, and students and provides necessary support for each. In addition, the coordinator works with the department chair to produce many of our guest/industry events, workshops, conferences, premiere showings, and provides support to students desiring to enter their projects in festivals and competitions.
Bachelor's degree in Cinema, Production, or Communications-related fields or equivalent experience.
Experience in promotions, marketing, and/or public relations campaigns.
Video production and editing with demonstrated portfolio.
Demonstrated proficiency in website creation and management, multi-social posting platforms/programs.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Organize department communication for newsletters, events, and programs to serve varying constituencies (department, university, prospective students, alumni, donors, entertainment industry, etc.).
Spearhead content creation for promotional and public relations purposes: videos, website and social media content, invitations, announcements, posters, flyers, brochures, etc.
Manage apucinema.com and work with University Relations to update apu.edu/cinema as needed.
Create actionable plans to both grow and maintain followers on website and social media platforms.
Track progress through the creation and implementation of monthly editorial calendar to include initiatives and objectives.
Help promote and produce special events (e.g., First Mondays, Premiere Night, Century of Cinema, Pitch Tank) and launch new events and programs.
Participate in promotional activities including recruitment days, expos, summer camps, etc.
Liaise with multiple university departments (e.g., University Relations, College of the Arts Dean's office, Student Recruitment, Alumni Relations, etc.) and maintain updated databases.
Oversee the Azusa Film Society student program and sponsored events (e.g., alumni workshops).
Supervise and assign projects to student workers as needed.
Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the department chair.
Broad production knowledge and abilities across the full scope and range of cinema production and the ability to impart basic operating instruction when necessary.
Experience creating strong, engaging design and written content.
Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing.
Capacity to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively to create and meet campaign objectives, complete tasks, identify needs, and provide successful outcomes.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to speak publicly and represent the department and university.
High level of reading comprehension and critical analysis.
Attention to detail and ability to track paperwork processes.
Experience with file management preferred.
Grade 9: $23.58-$30.65/hourly
