DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Sports Information Director (SID) will promote and support 21 varsity sports programs. The SID must have proven experience within a college athletics setting, ideally a Division III environment. The ultimate candidate must have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Sports Information Director must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rules and policies.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Understand and appreciate the mission of University of Redlands and Bulldog Athletics.
Oversee and manage game operations for all Department-sponsored varsity sports, including PrestoStats and NCAA Genius Live Stats, and Stretch Internet/Wirecast, etc.
Further enhance live streaming experience and overall video representation of Bulldog Athletics
Generate new content and organize archives on GoRedlands.com athletics website.
Critically write and edit feature stories, postgame recaps, season summaries, and awards releases in a timely manner.
Maintain appropriate sport and coaching records and documentation.
Develop and implement an enhanced social media presence through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Coordinate photography needs, including staff/team mugs and competition photos.
Manage the editing, posting, and cataloging of the Department photos.
Responsible for the supervision and mentoring of the sports information staff, including one assistant SID, 8-10 work-study students, and various volunteers from other parts of campus.
Must be willing to work long hours, weekends, and holidays.
Responsible for the oversite and management of the Sports Information budget.
Develop a working relationship with other areas on campus such as Student Affairs in general, Student Success and Involvement, Office of Career and Professional Development, and University Marketing & Communications, etc.
Serve the institution's athletics department, including attendance at home and away competitions as Department, NCAA and/or conference requires or deems necessary.
Must ensure equity in the quality and scope of coverage for the athletics program.
Serves as the primary media contact for the Athletics Department and the sports program.
Understands and maintains confidentiality as required.
Contributes to the overall success of the College and the Department by performing additional duties as determined by the Athletics Director.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree and have a minimum of five (5) years of postgraduate, professional sports information, or athletics communications experience, including writing and stat-taking. A master's degree and work experience within sports information, public relations and/or promotions, at the collegiate level, is preferred. The successful candidate must be attentive to details and able to multi-task. Working knowledge of PrestoSports/NCAA Genius Live Stats and website management through Presto and/or SideArm. The successful candidate must also possess a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of SCIAC and NCAA Division III rules and regulations. The successful candidate must have the ability to provide leadership and direction for the full-time Assistant SID student employees and additional hourly contracted personnel. A current DMV printout demonstrating a good driving record must be presented prior to offer of employment. The ideal candidate will possess experience working with diverse constituencies and sensitivity to multi-cultural issues; ability to work productively in a collaborative environment to meet deadlines. A willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours is essential. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
