This is a limited duration appointment (one year appointment) and continuation of employment is dependent upon the needs of the department and the University. The Diversity & Inclusion Specialist reports directly to the Chief Diversity Officer, and in collaboration with office of Diversity and Equity and other University staff will: Initiate programs and services for both employees and managers in the areas of cross cultural and international communication, diversity and inclusion, understanding, and skills development; Help managers and executives throughout all of the UTM entities, to design appropriate strategies to create, support, encourage and reinforce equity; Work with managers to design strategies to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into basic department work processes (e.g., reward, promotion, employee development). Collaborate with faculty and staff to support efforts to retain students, faculty and staff of color. Job Duties include: * Support diversity and inclusion efforts of UTM undergraduate and graduate students. * Assess diversity/inclusion training and education needs and targeted intervention tools, consistent with the University's strategic diversity plan. * Program Development, education, and training. * Support academic and non-academic procedures and policies as related to university-wide equity, diversity and inclusion. * Deliver cross cultural, diversity, and inclusion training modules. Assist faculty, administrators, and student leadership in developing educational programs designed to increase the understanding, sensitivity, and respect for all cultural groups, women, individuals with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community. * Plan, develop, and review DEI initiatives across the university. * Aid in recruitment and retention programs and efforts of students, faculty, and staff from underrepresented backgrounds * Oversee budget maintenance procedures for the office, including preparing purchase requisitions/purchase orders, manage travel-related expenses, external memberships, reimbursements, reconciliations, and other budget-related issues. * Coordinate the updating of policies and procedures. * Coordinate recruitment and hiring for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. * Coordinate the flow of all correspondence and oversee general office operations. * Create and/or edit, review, format final version, and oversee the preparation of office correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes, and conference proceedings, including documents of a confidential nature. * Develop face-to-face, teleconference, or web-based individual, task force, working group, constituent, or committee meetings, workshops, conferences, or multi-day conferences with concurrent sessions. * Manage appointments/meetings by initiating telephone, mail, and/or email contact with individuals/groups; coordinate multiple schedules among UTM and external constituents. Screen requests for appointments and establish priorities as necessary. * Make travel arrangements for CDIO in accordance with UTM policies and procedures. * Prepare, route for edits/signatures, and distribute materials as necessary in the Office of Diversity, and Inclusion. * Act as a liaison to UTM university-wide DEI groups (i.e. Diverse Student Orgs, Multicultural Affairs coordinators, Chancellors Commissions, Diversity Liaisons etc.). * Prepare reports and summaries of equity, diversity, and inclusion actions for communication to CDIO. * Work on special projects as assigned by the CDIO. * Participate as a member of project teams as assigned by the CDIO. * Propose, justify, and implement new departmental office systems. * Supervise student worker and work study students * Data Management & Reporting * Assist in data compilation and development of metrics and reports. * Perform other duties not specifically mentioned herein, under supervision of the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
