The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:
Minimum of an Associate’s degree;
Minimum of five (5) years of proven retail work experience;
General knowledge of the principles of management and retailing practices;
Familiarity with the principles of effective supervision;
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of a retail store - preferably a college bookstore;
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as communication skills – verbal, written, and visual;
Ability to remain focused and productive while working under stress and deadlines;
Working knowledge of publishers and their operational policies, general merchandise and non-book items, and general retail accounting and marketing principles;
Leadership skills and the ability of keeping employees motivated;
Demonstrated ability and strong desire to provide high standard of customer service with enthusiasm and energy;
Valid Florida driver’s license;
Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Organizing and supervising all daily activities of the IRSC River Shop on all campuses;
Managing and controlling textbook operations including purchasing, timely paperwork processing, record keeping and data analysis using current textbook software;
Overseeing the inventory of the store and the replenishment orders;
Coordinating/developing and implementing marketing and promotional plans, events and public relations strategies to promote the IRSC River Shop bookstore;
Supervising all store opening and closing procedures on a daily basis;
Managing the daily closeout process of cash registers and prepare daily bank deposits;
Hiring and training staff as needed in all phases of operation of Bookstore;
Evaluating the performance and work of the bookstore employees;
Negotiating with suppliers and vendors for textbook and product procurement;
Preparing financial and budget planning for the IRSC River Shop in all campuses;
Ensuring customer satisfaction and maintain store appearance and cleanliness.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Oversee and be responsible for all phases of the IRSC River Shop including purchasing, sales, training programs, book buy-back sessions, cash handling, inventory control, new product research and accounting methods and procedure;
Maintain day-to-day operations by initiating, coordinating, and administering program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures;
Monitor cash flow and availability, audit safe and daily deposits to Bursars;
Coordinate the sales floor setup, product placement, and completing necessary data entry;
Assist IRSC Auxiliary and Finance offices in determining auditing procedures to ensure recording of cash received and verification of invoices approved for payment;
Maintain the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements;
Ensure availability of merchandise and services by approving contracts and maintaining inventories;
Prepare and complete annual appraisals on the performance of all employees;
Design and implement training programs for the bookstore staff;
Assure proper accounting methods and procedures and the maintenance of other records including inventory, invoices, purchase orders, disbursements and other related records;
Maintain knowledge of the point of sale system and inventory control program;
Open and close The River Shop stores, which includes: arming and disarming the security system, opening and closing the store POS system, and operation of registers as needed;
Enforce current bookstore policies and procedures to ensure IRSC’s mission and vision are met;
Recommend short-term and long-term goals and, as needed, and suggest revisions to policies and procedures for bookstore operations;
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing working relationships with industry manufacturers, wholesalers, and representatives; and participating in professional societies to increase the store’s visibility and authority in the academic and literary community;
Ensure excellent customer service is provided and convey direction on inquiries and merchandise returns;
Develop, communicate and facilitate the bookstore’s marketing plan that includes advertising, graphic design, sale of merchandise and promotional sale events, signage, and public relations in order to meet overall business and budgetary goals;
Partner with Marketing, Media and Brand on review of marketing materials and promotions;
Coordinate main and branch campuses with community events and promotions which may require evening and/or weekend hours;
Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
This position requires an ability to sit, may be required to stand for an extended length of time, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
