The firm has an immediate opening for a Business Development Manager. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and the firm’s Management Committee, this key team member is responsible for working closely with our lawyers to recommend and execute a wide variety of strategic and targeted business development, marketing, and promotional initiatives to increase business, strengthen client and prospect relationships, promote the expertise of our lawyers, and enhance brand recognition.

Core responsibilities of this hands-on role for the firm include:
Develop and execute strategic business development goals and activities to advance core practice group and individual lawyer initiatives.
Prepare and coordinate all aspects of RFP responses, proposals, slide decks, experience lists, and other materials as needed for responsive business pursuit.
Prepare or oversee compilation of competitive intelligence in support of business development initiatives.
Identify, recommend, and facilitate coordination of speaking and sponsorship activities.
Manage and oversee participation in various professional organizations, conferences, and other external events to ensure investment of attendance time and money is fully leveraged for the firm and lawyers.
Recommend and support planning and coordination of CLE and thought-leadership programs for clients and potential clients.
Manage and support all aspects of planning client-focused events, including conceptual development, communications, target invitation lists, lawyer attendance, logistics and contract management, and follow up.
Manage and oversee the firm’s client and marketing contact mailing lists for regular and as-needed targeted communications.
Manage new lawyer integration into appropriate business development-focused client and practice efforts.
Engage in regular business development consultation and coaching with partners and associates and identify appropriate external training and coaching resources as needed.
Marketing and Brand Management
Collaborate with firm management and other stakeholders to lead and oversee a major brand and website redesign. Oversee all aspects of brand management.
Maintain all website content, including lawyer biographies, newsroom posts, and other content as identified.
Oversee development and mailing of external communications including annual Year in Review, lateral arrival announcements, and others as identified.
Develop and maintain marketing tools library including lawyer biographies, experience lists, slide decks, practice descriptions, lawyer headshots, social media and other graphics, and other collateral as needed.
Identify and manage branding, graphic design, and other vendors.
Develop or collaborate on a variety of internal communications and culture-building or firm value initiatives.
Update and manage all branded firm giveaways; collaborate with office coordinator to develop and manage branded office materials.
Media, Awards and Rankings, and Other Promotion
Conduct proactive and reactive media outreach through press releases and bylined articles, coordinate and track responses to media inquiries, including in limited cases serving as firm spokesperson. Develop and maintain media relations contacts with legal and business press.
Develop written and graphic content for and manage firm social media channels.
Develop award, ranking, and directory submissions (Chambers, ALM media, Law360, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, etc.) on an annual basis for the firm, its lawyers, and occasionally on behalf of clients, including calendaring, process management, submission drafting, submittal, result monitoring, tracking, and promotion. Store and leverage submittal information for other uses.
Indirectly oversees legal assistants and other support staff as part of execution of duties.
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of business development, marketing, and promotion experience in professional services environment required.
Prior law firm experience a strong plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Candidate will be a driven self-starter who takes personal ownership to achieve successful outcomes on a variety of projects and initiatives. Strong focus on collaboration, diplomacy, multi-tasking, creativity, problem-solving, and external and internal client service orientation.
Well-developed Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Proficiency with HTML and graphic design applications is preferred.
