DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS , Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) , to lead and execute an energetic and thoughtful communications effort in support of CSAIL's strategic activities and initiatives. Will oversee all communications involving CSAIL and the development and implementation of a lab-wide communications strategy; play a lead role in all the branding, design, digital, editorial, messaging, and public relations efforts of CSAIL and engage the wide and varied audience that follows its groundbreaking work; collaborate closely with CSAIL's academic and administrative leadership to create and convey a compelling image of CSAIL and the importance of its mission; and supervise a small staff team while managing external vendors and freelancers. Will report to the director of CSAIL.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications or related field; at least seven years' relevant professional experience, preferably at a creative agency or in political communications or higher-education; excellent communications, branding planning, public relations, strategic marketing, writing, editing, and publication skills; ability to design and implement effective communications strategies and programs; strong leadership skills; ability to "read the crowd", own one's opinions, forge strong relationships up and down, and influence; ability to manage a multi-functional team, function as a collaborative team player, and work effectively with multiple internal stakeholders under tight deadlines; strong project and time management skills and the ability to guide projects from inception to completion; and excellent managerial and organizational abilities. PREFERRED : a master's degree; familiarity with AP style; and technical and digital experience with diverse platforms, including video production, CMS (including WordPress) and CRM platforms, website creation/maintenance, design (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), and social media and networking.
