The Kew-Forest School, a preschool (3-year-olds) through 12th grade, co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, seeks a full-time front desk receptionist.
A high school diploma or equivalent
University/college degree is an asset
Interest in working in a school environment
High-level communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to manage work and remain focused in a high-traffic area of the School
Knowledge of phone and email etiquette, high-level listening skills, and ability to take and disseminate detailed and concise messages as needed
Familiarity with office phone systems
Previous experience with computer systems including G-Suite, MS Office, and Blackbaud
Answering the School’s main phone line and serving as the first contact with all callers to the school ranging from current and prospective families to vendors to the press
Monitoring security and telecommunications system at the reception desk, particularly for front door and back rolling gate for visitor arrivals on foot or by car and deliveries; collaborating with security personnel as needed
Greeting and screening all in-person visitors to the School and directing them appropriately; notifying school personnel of visitor arrival
Facilitating internal communications among faculty/staff and families/external callers
Supervising student entrances and exits, especially during arrival and dismissal times; administering late arrival passes for students
Maintaining security awareness and upholding safety protocols by following procedures, monitoring logbook, and issuing visitor badges
Managing delivery and distribution of USPS mail and packages (FedEx, UPS, etc.) in collaboration with facilities personnel as needed
Administering daily attendance through an online platform (Blackbaud)
Maintaining health and safety protocols in the pandemic setting
Keeping a safe and clean reception area by complying with School procedures and rules
Contributing to team effort by accomplishing additional related tasks as needed
Collaborating with administrative staff to maintain accurate and current employee and department directories for Front Desk Reception use
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (potential for daily schedule flexibility)
