The Director of Television Production is an experienced television professional with a deep understanding of and skillset in creating, developing, implementing, and evaluating television productions and related original digital content for local, regional, and national audiences and serves as Executive Producer for a variety of content including live sports, documentaries, and series following journalistic standards and practices with editorial integrity at the core of content creation. The Director ensures that content reflects diversity and is responsive to community needs/issues and station priorities. The Director works as a hands-on producer as needed. The Director reports to the Chief Content Officer and supervises a group of producers working closely with the station's team of videographer/editors, audio engineers, remote and studio crews, graphics designers, and outside producers to maintain quality standards while actively seeking and experimenting with new production models and evolving delivery methods in creating engaging content for television and online platforms. The Director secures rights/contracts for sports productions working closely with the University of Nebraska, NCAA, Nebraska State Activities Association, BTN, and Creighton University, among others. The Director is responsible for department and project budgeting, staff training and evaluation.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications or related field. Minimum of five years' experience producing television content —proven abilities in directing, writing, and producing a variety of television content in more than one genre of live television, documentaries, and series And 3 years' experience leading a team of producers. Work history will show a strong background, working knowledge, and a demonstrated proficiency in producing television programs and developing projects in more than one genre including live sports, news, public affairs, cultural affairs, humanities, science, or outreach are necessary. Experience must demonstrate strong skills in writing, producing, and directing television content, communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and customer relations.
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree. Experience creating original digital video content, live sports production, project planning, project management and budget development experience preferred; strong understanding of the tenants of public media and producing for noncommercial television as an Executive Producer.
