Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Outreach Manager develops, coordinates, and implements a cohesive outreach strategy and initiative across multiple media and written platforms to highlight and feature the world-class research and teaching of the department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB). This position will oversee the design and testing of web interface platforms and will develop and implement a strategy to unify CCBs web presence. The position will also be responsible for alumni tracking and communication and for coordinating an alumni outreach program. Position will create digital and written content in the appropriate forums both internally and externally that highlights the full range of CCB research and furthers the engagement of our alumni, students and externally interested parties in the cutting edge work happening within the department. The position will work directly with the Department Chair to create relevant funding and marketing strategies to support ongoing and/or new collaborative initiatives. This position will also, with the Chair and faculty executive committee, plan and execute a comprehensive system for nomination of CCB faculty for eligible awards, serving as the departmental liaison to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Deans Office and the University President and Provost Office. The position will work closely with the Harvard Public Affairs & Communication (HPAC) team. The position will maintain faculty nomination and award records and will be responsible for developing a strategic communication and dissemination plan for soliciting nominations, announcing awards and alerting appropriate media, including the University Communications Office. The position will have an opportunity to, in partnership with HPAC and CCB faculty, write profiles on faculty, staff and students and so a background in journalism or science writing/editing is preferred.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
BA/BS plus a minimum of three years experience in marketing, communications, alumni relations, research development or comparable role required.
Degree in Journalism or experience in science writing/editing is preferred.
Experience with web and social media platforms: WordPress, Facebook and Twitter etc.
Experience with design software
Demonstrated skill in writing, editing and design
Prior experience in a university setting
Excellent judgment, attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
Proven self-starter with the abilities to multi-task, manage stress, and function with a high degree of independence
