The Cognitive Development Lab at New York University is hiring a part-time assistant research scientist for summer 2021. We are seeking applicants with a demonstrated interest in psychological research to assist with projects on social-cognitive development in children and adults.
The researcher will work closely with postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the Cognitive Development Lab, where they will assist with studies on cognitive and social development. Responsibilities will include:
conducting behavioral studies with children over Zoom and/or at testing locations in New York City (e.g., zoos, camps), 2-3 weekdays/week and 1 weekend day/week
assisting lab managers with recruiting and scheduling children to participate in research
conducting literature reviews
coding children's responses to behavioral tasks
data management and cleaning, and assisting with data analyses
providing general support to lab researchers and other research-related tasks as needed
We are particularly interested in working with students from underrepresented backgrounds in the sciences (including first-generation college students, people of color, students with disabilities, and students from disadvantaged backgrounds) who desire to pursue a career in psychological research.
On-going feedback throughout the Summer as needed. Opportunity to give feedback throughout summer informally, and at the end of summer formally through an anonymous survey.
Remotely and/or in-person in the lab or at testing sites in New York City. NOTE: Given COVID-19, to work in-person, you will be required to undergo regular COVID-19 testing in adherence with NYU's policies.
This position requires a community-oriented individual who possesses a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and interest in psychological research. The ability to work independently, close attention to detail, and excellent communication and public relations skills are valued for this position. The ability to maintain confidentiality is an essential characteristic of this job.
have completed a minimum of 3 undergraduate psychology courses
be available for 15-20 hours per week between 9am and 7pm, including one weekend day per week between June 1st and August 21st
be familiar with Microsoft Excel
Minimum Education: HS Diploma
