Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Family & Child Services, Family Finance, Consumer and Family Economics, Financial Counseling, Education, or closely related discipline. Additional years of experience. Experience that demonstrates understanding and application of appropriate adult learning strategies. Experience securing and administering grants and/or contracts. Training or experience with early childhood, parenting education, adult development, family finance, human sciences, and/or family studies principles. Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating human sciences programs. Experience that demonstrates the ability to organize, coordinate, and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a Human Sciences Specialist position to be filled at the Education Extension Specialist I or II level. The position will focus on Family Life and Family Finance within Human Sciences. The position will promote Extension engagement and education with youth, families, businesses and communities. This position will serve a 12 county region (Appanoose, Clarke, Decatur, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Warren, Wayne). The primary office location is flexible and will be determined after acceptance of the offer.
Responsibilities include providing educational opportunities through programming leadership, delivery, consultation, technical assistance, and support for integrated content in the areas of human sciences with primary focus on aspects of family life, including family finance. Additional duties include the development of program materials and the provision of staff and volunteer training, as well as the development of educational models that may be used by the Extension and Outreach system to effectively build relationships with individuals, families, and communities.
In addition to Education Extension Specialist I duties listed above, an Education Extension Specialist II will create and deliver comprehensive and complex programming, conduct needs assessment activities and identify and implement innovative ways to meet clientsâ needs, take an active role in the development of interdisciplinary programming, and provide leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, area and state level. The Education Extension Specialist II level is a PS807 with minimum requirements of a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience.
The successful candidate will be able to develop partnerships and collaborations with appropriate agencies, associations and organizations to implement program activities. Strong organizational, facilitation and communications skills, along with an ability to pay close attention to detail will be essential for success in the position. The candidate will also possess the ability to prioritize multiple ongoing tasks concurrently to ensure immediate deadlines are met, as well as exceptional analytical and public relations skills to effectively represent and deliver ISU Human Sciences Extension and Outreach educational opportunities and programs.
This is a regular, fixed term position, with opportunity for renewal.
Example of Duties â¢ Functions as an effective educator. â¢ Responds to programming and information using routine sources and materials, matching relevant information and programs with audience needs. â¢ Provides subject-matter support to local networks and coalitions to build community capacity (brings added value to producers, addresses environmental issues, and improves education and service for youth, community or families). â¢ Participates in needs assessment activities; evaluates major program efforts; and completes system reports when due. â¢ Sets goals related to reaching targeted under-served and under-represented audiences. â¢ Secures resources (volunteers, contracts, and grants) to support identified needs at a county level.
