Detailed Job Description The Office of Government & Community Relations actively works to raise the University's profile with public officials, staff and key stakeholders and members of the external community through special events and programs and works to advance the University's funding, policy and legislative priorities with particular attention paid to the University's growing economic impact and development in Rochester. GCR is seeking to create a Director, Community Relations position to better engage with the local community, key community stakeholders and local elected officials. This position will also work with student government/clubs to engage students in state and local advocacy.
Please note: This position requires the ability to attend occasional weekend, early morning and evening events, both on and off campus.
Coordinates the activities of the department on matters relating to local governments and community organizations primarily in Monroe County.
Serve as a key link between RIT, its neighbors, and organizations and governments in Monroe County, specifically our host communities.
Engage with student organizations and clubs, such as the Student Government, to provide opportunities for students to engage in advocacy efforts and interact with the local community on areas of mutual interest.
Responsible for identifying and cultivating new relationships that will positively affect enrollment and help raise RIT's profile at the state and local level.
Contribute to and assist with management of GCR's social media platforms.
Manage Student Lobby Day in Albany in coordination with the GCR Executive Assistant to the VP/Marketing Coordinator and the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU)

RITs Division of Government and Community Relations serves as the universitys liaison with federal, state and local government entities as well as community groups and organizations. The staff is responsible for coordinating RITs participation in community events, and manage large-scale special events that take place on the RIT campus and in the community.
The divisions mission is to implement a comprehensive program of government relations, community relations and special events to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships between the Institute and all levels of government and the community at large. These relationships result in funding and other types of support, and strengthen RITs visibility and image in the community.
Required Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree Five Years experience in higher education, government, community relations and/or community engagement programs, preferably in Monroe County.
Knowledge of and experience working with state and local Monroe County elected officials required.
Experience with state and local higher education legislation and policy issues such as TAP and HEOP.
Experience working directly with diverse constituency groups and managing challenging community issues.
Outstanding verbal and written presentation and communication skills.
Must be able to register as a lobbyist at the State and Local level
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively at all levels within a University setting.
Social Media savvy
The ability to travel frequently throughout Monroe County is required.
Ability to travel occasionally to Albany.
