The communications specialist will work to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Biomedical Engineering (BME) department in the McKelvey School of Engineering through relevant and engaging departmental print and digital communications.� Reporting to the department chair and working closely with the school’s marketing and communications team, the BME communications specialist will develop new and enhance existing integrated communications, in support of the department’s mission and goals.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the liaison between the department and the school’s marketing and communications team.� Working with the school’s team, assist with developing the department’s communications plan.� Ensure departmental communications are accurate and adhere to the school’s and university’s brand standards.� Coordinating with the school’s communications director as needed, develop and/or coordinate select department-specific print and digital communications (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, flyers, invitations, blog posts, etc.) and work with the school’s team to maintain the department’s website.� Coordinate departmental photo and video shoots as needed.
Facilitate content for the department’s website, newsletter, brochure, and other communications.
Develop and maintain the department’s social media channels; coordinate social media engagement as appropriate with the school’s and university’s channels.
Manage internal departmental communications.� Maintain the department’s email and mail distribution lists.
Assist as needed with planning departmental events, conferences and workshops.
Provide support for other departmental operations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field and two years of professional work experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations (or equivalent education and experience).
Demonstrated success in creating and implementing a communications strategy, writing and editing content, and managing websites and social media channels.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience in using website and email content management systems.
Three to five years of direct professional work experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations.
Previous experience with scientific/technical writing.
Ability to effectively communicate scientific concepts to both science/engineering professionals and general public.
Knowledge of AP style.
Strong writing and editing skills, including excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to foster productive working relationships with diverse constituencies.
Creativity and critical-thinking skills.
This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week.

The hiring range for this position is $21.18 - $26.99 per hour.
