The Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies (HCPDS), located in Cambridge, MA, is dedicated to understanding how demographic changes and social and physical environments impact global population health worldwide. As a University-wide, interdisciplinary initiative that is administered by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the HCPDS brings together scientists from all corners of the campus to make critical advances in population research.
The HCPDS has an immediate opening for a part-time Project Content Writer to work on a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded-project entitled
3+ years of relevant experience required; a combination of education and experience may be considered
PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a portfolio (with a minimum of of 2) of writing samples.
Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Journalism or other related fields strongly preferred
A degree in public health, epidemiology, biology, or other population health field is also a plus
Professional experience working in higher education is a plus
Experience in data visualization and storytelling is preferred
Knowledge of and interest in policy aspects related to India is a strong plus
Experience in designing and creating infographics and other types of figures for publications is preferred
Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and social media optimized writing (SMO) is a plus
Experience translating scientific, complex information for a lay audience strongly preferred
Experience with copyediting for grammar, spelling, format, and tone preferred
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and web content management systems is preferred
Responsive to requests, and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written preferred
Excellent writing skills, including aptitude to write in another person's voice, synthesize and communicate complex subjects clearly and concisely, and adapt writing styles for varied audience preferred
Effectively engages journalists and media members as needed
Excellent organizational skills and experience managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines preferred
