ASSISTANT DEAN FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION - (210000GG)
The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion serves as a collaborator with the Dean, Chief of Staff, administration, faculty, and broader School of Dentistry community in developing and advancing a diversity and inclusion strategy. The Assistant Dean reports to and works with the Dean to achieve diversity and inclusion goals, efforts, and initiatives. This role includes the growth and advancement of the value of diversity and inclusion as an important core institutional value.
As a collaborator with the Dean, Chief of Staff, administration, faculty, and broader School of Dentistry community, assist in developing and advancing a diversity and inclusion strategy, including:
Helping to establish diversity and inclusion excellence as a core value throughout all aspects of the School of Dentistry community.
Developing and recommending diversity and inclusion policies for the School of Dentistry and training the School of Dentistry community on diversity and inclusion policies.
Helping maintain an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds.
Undertaking a broad range of strategic and tactical activities related to the identification, development, and execution of diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty, staff, and students.
Playing a lead role in carrying out the School of Dentistry's commitment to diversity and inclusion for all members of the community.
Identifying relevant speakers, guests, and experts for School of Dentistry events, and assisting in planning and coordinating diversity and inclusion programs.
Assist the Dean on issues pertaining to diversity and inclusion in the School of Dentistry, including:
Acting as a liaison between the Dean and other School of Dentistry constituents on issues of diversity and community engagement, including collaborating for the development and execution of diversity training, and designing educational materials that enhance awareness of diversity and equity issues.
Advising on institutional responses to issues related to diversity, including acting as a spokesperson and strategic leader for issues related to diversity, both internally and externally.
Assessing, monitoring, and reporting on progress in achieving the School of Dentistry's diversity and inclusion objectives.
Building relationships with School of Dentistry alumni and assisting the Office of Development and Alumni Relations with outreach efforts.
Work collaboratively with the Dean, the Chief of Staff, other Assistant Deans, campus leaders, committees, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents to advance the School of Dentistry's commitment to diversity in the School of Dentistry and in the practice of oral healthcare, including:
Assisting in developing and implementing best practices related to diversity, equity and inclusion in such areas as the recruitment and retention of students, administrators, faculty, and staff, student life, community outreach, and institutional advancement.
Serving as an ex officio member of the School of Dentistry's Inclusive Excellence and Equity Committee
Supporting faculty committees as needed, serving as a liaison in relation to committee initiatives and projects related to diversity and inclusion.
Working closely with the members of the School of Dentistry community in connection with recruiting, professional development, communications, and public relations.
Serving as the School of Dentistry's representative in relevant community activities, groups, and professional organizations, and bearing responsibility for elevating awareness of diversity and inclusion issues and initiatives both within and outside of the School of Dentistry.
Serving as a liaison between the School of Dentistry administration and student groups.
Make meaningful contributions to deepening the School of Dentistry's commitment to diversity on its campus and with the people and communities that surround it, including:
Focusing on emphasizing the need for graduates who are capable of being successful citizens in an increasingly multicultural society.
Attending related conferences and other internal and external programs to acquire and report on practices and information to improve the School of Dentistry's diversity initiatives.
Speaking at conferences and in other forums about diversity and the School of Dentistry's programs.
Promoting an inclusive work environment by supporting employee-initiated projects and providing advocacy for groups that support initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion.
The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will have a teaching role, consistent with his/her area of expertise.
The following candidate qualifications and characteristics are desirable:
Demonstrated track record in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies that promote success for students and employees in a higher education
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong communication skills and the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and discretion
An experienced agent for change with experience in organizational development
Administrative experience leading programs to new levels of excellence, impact, and innovation
The successful candidate should hold a terminal professional degree (e.g., MD, DO, DDS/DMD) and/or PhD and have experience in academic dentistry/medicine or national organizations representing academic dentistry/medicine.
Qualified applicants must be eligible for an academic appointment in the School of Dentistry and a record of teaching, service and scholarship consistent with the appointment.
