The nutrition educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County is responsible for providing leadership in assessment, development, planning, delivery, and evaluation of the nutrition, health, and/or consumer education programs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, Public Health or related discipline relevant to the role of the position. * 2 years volunteer or related work experience relevant to the role of the position. * Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. * Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. * Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English. * Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. * Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel. * Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. * Demonstrated experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team with internal and external partners at multiple levels within organizations and across communities. * Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement and evaluate informal education programs for diverse audiences. * Ability to identify and secure funding that supports programs, including grant writing, developing public and private partnerships. * Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information. * Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work in a timely manner and within established deadlines. * Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. * Registered Dietitian (RD) or Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist (CDN). * Experience in community nutrition and health education programming. * Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community. * Experience working with an advisory committee. * Experience working with agency staff at regional and state levels. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Program Assessment - 10% * Under guidance of Supervisor, assist the Advisory Committee to identify gaps and trends in the community * Assist Supervisor to identify new trends and state policy developments in order to recommend programming offerings, enhancements, or improvements * Assist in ensuring program assessment is within scope of statewide Plan of Work
Program Development - 25% * Research, identify, and select existing nutrition and community health resources for the program * Using in-depth expertise in nutrition and community health, work to create innovative programs to address barriers including engaging diverse partners and collaborators * Adapt curriculum materials to create lesson plans that meet local community and individual needs, and consider diverse audiences * Create or adapt program materials to address participant needs * Create innovative educational programs to meet the needs of the community * Structure program offerings to meet the needs of diverse program participants * Make changes to program content based on evaluation feedback and program outcomes * Interpret Association program direction to create educational programs * Maintain working relationships with community members, Cornell University, and other interested groups to develop programs which express the demographics of the community Program Delivery - 25% * Apply subject matter experience and information gained during program assessment and development to deliver the resulting program * Create lesson plans to deliver educational programs by applying in-depth subject matter knowledge * Use a variety of delivery methods including workshops, public events, articles, newsletters, web pages, and social media to deliver program * Represent the program and the Association to the public and community leaders in a professional manner as part of program delivery * Serve as subject matter expert and respond to questions about nutrition and community health * Engage volunteers in program delivery using established materials * Assist in maintaining linkages with Cornell and other SUNY institutions as part of program delivery * Ensures program delivery is within scope of statewide Plan of Work Program Evaluation - 10% * Apply subject matter knowledge to evaluate educational program * Interact with program participants, Advisory Committee, and community agencies to gather informal program evaluation information * Implement program evaluation with program participants and community agencies * Analyze and interpret evaluation data and make recommendations for program improvement * Communicate evaluation results and findings * Maintain direct linkage with Cornell University faculty and program units for program evaluation guidance * Ensure program evaluation is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work Administrative Direction - 15% * Interpret Association program direction, with the assistance of Supervisor and Advisory Committee, to plan educational programs * Plan the delivery of established educational program goals * Plan effective strategic external and internal communication efforts * Assist Supervisor in the design of a system of ongoing involvement of an advisory committee and other stakeholders who represent and communicate the demographics of the community * Assist Supervisor in planning for program expenses, communications, and strategic marketing
Administrative Management - 5% * Assist is solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program * Identify activities and resources needed to carry out program priorities and goals in consultation and collaboration with supervisor, program committees, staff, Cornell faculty, agency partners, and other community constituents. * Monitor program financial status to ensure compliance with funding requirements, grant specifications, and adherence to Association strategies/Plan of Work. * Ensure volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures (VIP) by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management. Administrative Coordination/Operation - 5% * Compile existing resources into educational program materials * Collect evaluation data from program participants * Assist Supervisor in coordinating program implementation activities and planning efforts * Complete and submit program reports and financial documentation to meet funding agency requirements * Prepare and submit grants/contracts for new or existing funding * Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. * Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. * Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected. * Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as requested. * This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities. Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5% * In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities. * Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. * Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position. * Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local fairs, community activities, etc. * Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. * Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
