Location: Hyde Park Campus Job Description: - Writes and publishes editorial feature articles about student life, academics, student achievements and College news for the Collegeâ™s quarterly student and parent newsletter.
- Collaborates with the University News team and partner units to cross-promote College content.
- Attends weekly content meetings with University Communications team and provides updates on upcoming stories from the College.
- Connects with campus partners to identify potential storylines, events and news that can be leveraged across College channels.
- Manages the Collegeâ™s editorial calendar, tracking upcoming events/activities, key dates and deadlines.
- Creates concepts, writes, edits, publishes and monitors social media content.
- Attends campus and student events such as Orientation Week and Convocation to ensure social media coverage, when necessary.
- Contributes to quarterly metrics reports.
- Assists with the oversight of the College Editorial Team, including attending weekly meetings, editing student feature stories and approving social media posts.
- Arranges photo shoots for stories, either through student photographers or through UChicago Creative.
- Develops copy and new pages for the College website and assists College partners with publishing updates to their respective pages.
- Assists with press release development in media relations efforts.
- Assists with other areas of communications, as needed.
- Plans, develops and disseminates information designed to keep the public informed of the organization's programs, accomplishments, or point of view, with moderate levels of guidance and direction.
- Continues to build higher level knowledge of the University, processes and customers.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Education: - Bachelorâ™s degree in a related field such as creative writing, journalism, marketing, English or communications.
Experience: - 2-4 years of experience in journalism, public relations, or corporate communications.
- Editorial or journalism experience.
- Familiarity with website content management and social media scheduling tools.
- Experience managing social media accounts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic computer proficiency.
