Position Function:

The primary function of the Assistant Golf Professional is to assist the Head Golf Professional in the overall operation of the MSU Golf Course and Golf Academy.

Salary Grade: 13

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Anticipated Appointment Date:

February 1, 2021

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage and maintain daily play operations.
2. Manage tournament operations.
3. Give group and individual lessons and assist in the operation of the MSU Golf Academy.
4. Further develop merchandising opportunities to increase revenues.
5. Assist in the promotion and development of the Professional Golf Management Program.
6. Manage the golf course outside operations including car fleet management and customer service.
7. Develop & implement golf course policies & procedures.
8. Assist in the development of food and beverage operation.
9. Direct and train golf operations staff.
10. Increase awareness and revenue via the MSU web store.
11. Attend conferences, seminars, and meetings as permitted for professional development.
12. Commit to achieving membership with the PGA.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned by the head golf professional.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Professional Golf Management, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or a closely related field.

At least one year of experience in Golf course operations, club repair operations, merchandising, and public relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate of a Professional Golf Management Program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
2. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of golf course operations.
3. Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in golf.
4. Employee development and performance management skill.
5. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate golf tournaments, clinics, and other golf events.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and implement promotional programs and events.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
8. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Occasional and / or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
2. Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
3. Job frequently requires standing, walking, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
4. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
5. Must be willing to work in both an office setting and outdoors.
6. Must be willing to work weekends.
