Under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the successful candidate will: - Provide specific, direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
- Perform direct nursing care as delegated.
- Perform indirect nursing care activities as determined by routine assignment as well as unit activity.
- Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care to patients.
- Respond to the changing care needs of patient care areas.
- Participate in activities to promote and foster team spirit and boost unit morale.
- Use problem solving in meeting patient care and unit needs.
- Maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
- Utilize effective skills in communicating with members of the health care team.
- Foster and maintain positive public relations with patients, families, visitors and staff.
- Obtain, record and exchange information on behalf of the patient.
- Take an active role in personal and professional development.
- Make decisions and take actions that are guided by ethical principles.
- Serve as an addendum for Nurse Aides in the Emergency Department.
- Perform pre-triage functions under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Identify and place armbands displaying full name and date of birth on all newly triaged patients.
- Place new patients on the T-System triage board.
- Obtain vital signs for all walk in and ambulance triage patients as needed.
- Inform the triage nurse or charge nurse of any abnormal vital signs, patients who c/o chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
| Required Qualifications: | - 1-year of satisfactory experience as a Nursing Assistant or equivalent in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrate written, verbal, arithmetic and comprehension skills.
