Position Description

The Scratch Foundation is seeking a Director of Operations to be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the organization’s daily operations, including internal communication, legal, and special projects that support our vision and plans for long-term growth and sustainability. Supporting and reporting to the Executive Director, this key leadership position will wear many hats, lead through influence, and work closely with team and project leadership across the organization, as well as external stakeholders, to provide analysis and alignment on organizational strategy, operations, and project execution. As the Director of Operations, this role will have an immediate impact on our productivity, streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives internally and externally. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in nonprofit management, with a special focus on executive-level advising and interdepartmental collaboration.  It’s a great opportunity to get in at the foundational level as we start to grow and make a significant impact in expanding creative learning experiences for children around the world!

Work Performed:

Strategy Development and Implementation

• Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution under the guidance of the executive director and coordination team.
• Facilitate and effectively communicate in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
• Review, design, and execute on improvements to organizational structure, find knowledge and skills gaps, and help address them.
• Play a lead role in developing inclusive strategic planning processes, effectively facilitating dialogue and engagement throughout the evaluation and implementation process from project scoping to implementation to ensure strategic growth goals (revenue, volume, etc.) are met.
• Ensure that strategies are developed which reflect the complex intersection of education, technology, community, and business, considering current and likely future developments.
• Define and scope project/initiative requirements, planning resources, costs, and timeframes to ensure project success.
• Direct team progress and develop project proposals, status reviews, and other documents and presentations to ensure the timely evaluation and execution of projects.

Management and Operations

• Identify and target areas in which the organization can improve its daily operations, overseeing the development of new processes, scaling, and general management and leveraging core capabilities and strengths.
• Improve current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity.

• Serve as liaison between executive director, coordination team, board of directors, and staff, regarding Scratch project updates, proposals, and planning.
• Assist the Director of Human Resources with new hires, including documentation and onboarding, and collaborate to address and resolve all employee concerns.
• Build and develop relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations, and help to define new operational strategies, working with Executive Director and on special projects.
• Serve as a subject matter expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications.

• Planning and leading Scratch-wide meetings and retreats, high level external meetings, and other special events. 
• Effectively facilitate and develop strong working relationships with organizational leadership, project teams, committees, and internal and external stakeholders (partners, consultants, etc.) to support the execution of key initiatives.
• Work with subject matter experts and key stakeholders, incorporating innovative ideas, models, and data-driven insights and processes.
• Continually assess risks and facilitate contingencies and/or resolutions across Scratch functions, including the online community of Scratchers.
