Senior Editor/Writer Dynamic trade association seeking an individual with strong communication and organizational skills, including expertise in writing, editing, photography, and digital and social media. Must have experience in news, feature and business writing, as well as editing and proofreading, and be capable of producing high-quality work on a consistent basis. Exceptional grammar and command of AP Style required, along with ability to coordinate workflow of others in managing multiple deadlines. The individual would join a team of communications and member relations professionals, and must be able to work collaboratively as well as independently in meeting organizational goals. Association and/or utility experience a plus; some travel required. Major Areas of Responsibility • Organize and manage content flow for multiple publications, coordinating work of contributing editors, writers, columnists • Produce variety of content, including news and feature writing, photography, and other communications, for publication and other organizational use • Provide quality control of publications and products through editing and proofreading • Provide coverage of events, including meetings and other media opportunities • Provide communications support for departmental and organizational tasks as required • Represent organization at various events and functions • Develop and maintain contacts with affiliated organizations • Develop and maintain media contacts • Provide editorial guidance to writers, columnists • Coordinate training events for communicators Duties • Write/edit stories, articles, press releases, business briefs, other communications as needed • Manage publication content flow, including work of columnists, contributing editors/writers • Develop stories/content for publication, conduct interviews, take photographs • Take active part in production process, communications planning, training events, other organizational functions as needed • Travel to cover events and represent organization Knowledge Sets • Thorough knowledge of news and feature writing and editing, including intimate knowledge of Associated Press style required • Thorough knowledge of multiple media platforms, including print, digital, photographic, video and social media required • Thorough knowledge of press and media relations, interview techniques, internal and external communications required • Basic knowledge of publication layout and design, website management, print and digital advertising, and publication production and printing required • Knowledge of electric utility industry/energy policy/government operations a plus • Knowledge of cooperative business model/trade associations a plus Skills and Abilities Sets • Excellent organizational skills • Excellent writing, editing skills • Excellent oral communication skills • Excellent photography/videography skills • Ability to understand complex issues and effectively communicate them to others • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment • Ability to work with multiple technology platforms • Ability to coordinate work of multiple staff members, outside content providers • Ability to manage multiple assignments under time constraints in fast-paced work environment Position Details: • Report to Director of Communications & Member Services • FLSA Status – Exempt (not eligible for overtime) The organizations offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. |
