Faculty Position Information:Position Title:Assistant or Associate Professor - Ag and Life Sciences CommunicationAppointment Type:FacultyJob Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:The Department of Agricultural Education and Studies in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, seeks applicants for a 9-month, tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. This position focuses on communication in agriculture and life sciences. The position is 70% teaching and advising, 25% research, and 5% service to the department, college and university. The successful candidate will join a growing agricultural communication program and will be expected to collaborate closely with faculty and staff to strengthen and expand the program. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, both resident and online; advising undergraduate and graduate students; supervising student interns; serving on departmental, college, and university committees; advising a student organization; developing a focused area for scholarship; and seeking extramural funding. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest, ability, and innovation related to teaching agriculture communication. Required Minimum Qualifications:PhD, awarded by the start date, in Agricultural Education, Agricultural Communication, or closely related discipline (Marketing, Public Relations, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, Mass Communication, etc.) Experience conducting research Associate Professor: For consideration at the associate professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above requirements for this position, the department, college, and Iowa State University's standards for appointment at the associate professor rank with tenure, including nationally recognized contributions to scholarship in their area of expertise, a record of acquisition of external funding for research activities, and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated ability, interest, and innovation in resident and online teaching Demonstrated innovation and experience using digital communication platforms Experience promoting agricultural technologies and other innovations to diverse audiences Knowledge of U.S. agriculture Multimedia communication with Extension, 4-H, adult, other non-formal and public audiences Business, industry, government, or nonprofit organization experience in agricultural communications or closely related field Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding to support scholarship Evidence of ability to work effectively with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations Department/Program & College Description:The Department of Agriculture Education and Studies has as its focus the teaching and learning processes.
