Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development (DOD) will provide strategic vision, innovation and leadership, and clear direction for the development program. They will be an enthusiastic, thoughtful and organized professional who leads by example to build a culture of philanthropy at High Point Academy (HPA). Serving as a member of the leadership team, the DOD will be responsible for all aspects of the development office including annual and individual giving programs; alumni and community relations; cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship of donors and donor prospects. The DOD will work to strengthen and grow participation rates for the High Point Academy Annual Fund, HPA’s primary fundraising vehicle, and to meet or exceed the budgeted goal for each fiscal year. This role also provides administrative and database support in the areas of constituency management including gift reporting and constituent tracking. The successful candidate possesses strong leadership and management skills as well as a keen understanding of best practices in fundraising. The ideal candidate will have extraordinary communication skills and familiarity with fundraising in an independent school or higher education environment.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in advancement, development, public relations, event management or related field; strong preference for fundraising experience in independent school or higher education setting.

Excellent written, verbal, editing and communication skills
Highly organized and able to maintain confidentiality, including information about donors, contributions, and constituents in general.
Ability to work and engage productively with volunteers, donors, alumni, students and other departments within the school.
Strong working knowledge of fundraising software platforms. Experience with Filemaker Pro-Generations preferred.
Commitment to continued professional growth and development in order to maintain and upgrade relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities.
