Senior Graphic DesignerÂ - Fixed-Term Position (to be re-evaluated each Fiscal Year)
USC University Communications is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer to join the Creative Services team. This is a Fixed-Term, full-time position, with competitive benefits. Working closely with the Creative Director, Senior Design Manager and fellow designers, the candidate will help to uphold the USC graphic identity system in addition to working on creative new approaches in the digital environment - supporting the team in planning, producing, and implementing digital initiatives across web and social. This position is as much communication-focused as it is creative. The ideal candidate has excellent time management, client services and communications skills, both verbal and written, with a strong understanding of layout, typography and composition in the print and digital realms. Must be very familiar with CSS and HTML languages. Information graphics and data visualization capabilities are a plus.Â
Responsibilities will include:
Conceptualize, design, produce and deliver creative assets for a wide range of projects includingÂ email communications, front and back-end website design and development, social media, animation, branded materials and collateral.
Active role in the migration of the USC Alumni magazine print content to web.
Create digital email templates
Write well designed, testable, efficient code that adheres to industry best practices and knowledge in troubleshooting
Active role in developing innovative, interactive solutions that leverage responsive web functionality to optimize engagement and user experience.
Develops, produces and distributes social media assets for department marketing and public relations purposes.Â
Collaborate with key stakeholders across the University to ensure consistency with USCâs brand and identity standards.Â
Create information graphics for USC News.
Supporting senior staff in assigned project-based work.
Participate in creative brainstorms for design projects.Â
Optimize assets for web.Â
Attend press checks as needed.Â
Bachelorâs Degree in in graphic design, visual arts, visual communication or a related creative field.Â
4-5 years of professional experience working in a creative environment such as a design firm, advertising or digital agency, or in-house creative department.Â
Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects.Â
Advanced HTML and CSS skills.Â
Familiarity with Wordpress and Mailchimp.Â
Experience in design prototyping tools (Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, etc.)Â Â
Excellent typography skills and attention to detail.Â
Working knowledge of the creation of GIFs and animations for social and web.Â
Experience creating information graphics and data visualization a plus.
Candidate Must Submit:
Portfolio of design work, including a range of creative projects from print design and presentations to design for digital applications, mobile/web or interactive design work, UX/UI work, including prototypes and responsive designs
Minimum Education: Associate's Degree Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 3 Years Minimum Field of Expertise: Education in graphic or industrial design. Work experience as graphic designer covering all aspects of artwork preparation and printing. Requires thorough knowledge of typography, printing processes, selection of paper or printing surface and paper folding, binding and finishing.
