We are seeking to hire a full-time (37.5 hours /week) a study coordinator to assist with the implementation of a social media based HIV prevention study in a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded study at the University of Southern California, Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. This study aims to test whether a Twitter based recruitment strategy to effectively identify and recruit young men at elevated risk for HIV infection.Â We will also provide guidance on the feasibility, acceptability and ethical considerations of this approach among the population.
Tasks will include: coordinating social media, behavioral, and biological data collection, compliance, and data management and analysis; coordinating participant recruitment and screening; obtaining informed consent; administering interviews and surveys to participants; recruiting, hiring and managing the youth research assistants, coordination of the social media content analysis; and drafting project-related reports. The study coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Principal Investigator and the research team to organize daily operations of the project.
The Study Coordinator (SC) will help to ensure the completion of the project timelines for both recruitment and data collection. The SC will be involved in the implementation of all phases of the study from design to deliverables, will identify critical tasks and personnel required to complete projects successfully, and will monitor project status and ensure that tasks and deliverables are completed on time.Â For this position, experience with behavioral research methods are required. Experience in HIV prevention, using social media, and working with African American and LGBTQ populations is preferred. This is a one-year, grant-funded staff position.
PRINCIPAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Social Media Data Collection
Assist with training of research assistants and students to conduct content analysis of social media.
Assist with the development of social media analysis coding schema
Support research assistants in obtaining reliability for coding
Manage coding software for team ( e.g. Dedoose, Atlas.it or Nvivo)
Manage communications with computer science team
Subject Recruitment, Consent & Behavioral/ Biological Data Collection
Assist with all phases of study implementation including participant recruitment and enrollment, and data collection.
Contributes to the development of surveys and interview guides
Obtain informed consent from participants.
Conduct and oversee includes in-depth telephone interviews with participants
Administer and oversee in person study visit which includes surveys, HIV home testing kit and urine based drug screening.
Adhere to protocol procedures to maintain participant safety and protection of human subjects data.
Assist in the design and creation of project related materials such as recruitment materials, publications, etc.
Develop and maintain relationships with participants and our community partners
Quality Management and Compliance with Study Protocols; Data management
Ensure compliance with human subjectâs standards and research protocols, maintains strict confidentiality.
Promptly report any areas of concern to project manager or principal investigator according to study protocol.
Assure confidentiality of study data
Manage project database in conjunction with research team.
Ensure timely data entry and monitors quality of data entry and management.
Compile and coordinate the submission of reports for both regulatory and administrative requirements with the PI.
Study Coordination - Coordinates daily operations working in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and the research team.
Demonstrate knowledge ofÂ he study protocol and contributes to the planning and implementation of the research study.
Act as liaison with internal and external constituents to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities; coordinates with the business office as needed.
Coordinate meetings with the research team and key participants and actively participates in identifying problems that may arise and offer potential solutions.
Maintain project documentation in secure electronic and paper form.
Design and implement systems and procedures to maintain effective and efficient study operations.
Train and supervise new research assistants/students in administering study procedures
Assist with preparation of reports, institutional review board and funding agency including adverse event reporting
Participate in drafting and editing presentation abstracts, presentations and manuscripts
Perform additional duties as assigned.
A Bachelorâs Degree in Counseling, Communication, Public Health or health related field and/or equivalent experience with acquired knowledge of research or experimental techniques is preferred. Strong research background in behavioral science and/or clinical trials research preferred.Â For this position, experience with behavioral research methods is preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills required.Â Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with adolescents and young adults, community members, study participants, investigative team, and research staff is essential. The successful candidate will possess initiative, sound judgment, and a high level of organization in a fast-paced environment.Â Must be able to work independently but also to collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary research team.Â Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines is essential.Â Strong computer skills in MS office and social media use experience.Â Prior supervisory experience desired.Â Experience in HIV prevention, using social media, and working with African American and LGBTQ populations is preferred.
