Assistant Director of Residence Life

The Assistant Director of Residence Life (ADRL) is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life (ORL) within the Student Affairs division. This is a 12-month, live-on position that reports directly to the Director of Residence Life (DRL). In collaboration with the DRL, the ADRL manages the administrative, programmatic, and supervisory tasks associated with all facets of Washington and Lee’s residence life office that currently serves approximately 1,600 residential students. The ADRL has significant responsibility for all functional areas of housing operations such as housing assignments, key management, occupancy reports, room changes, and damage billing. The ADRL is also expected to co-supervise student staff (resident advisors and community assistants) and assist the DRL with housing initiatives, residence life programming, and assessment. Additional job functions include: serve in an on-call rotation (one to three weeks per term); manage housing selection, administrative processes, and databases; maintain the residence life website; assist with student staff recruitment, selection, training, and supervision; review and administer the residence life curriculum; promote the safety and welfare of all residents; and refer students to appropriate campus resources. Working Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. The anticipated salary for this position is set at $40,412.00. Furnished housing and a campus meal plan will be provided rent, utility, and tax-free.
