This position is under the supervision of the communications manager of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish (Fish Innovation Lab). This position will assist with communications activities of the lab and its worldwide partners. Activities include the coordination of marketing and promotion activities, writing and editing of articles and press releases related to lab activities and projects, and supporting subawardees with communications aspects of their projects.
Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish (Fish Innovation Lab) aims to reduce poverty and improve nutrition, food security, and livelihoods in developing countries by supporting the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture systems. The Fish Innovation Lab supports and links research partners around the globe to identify, develop, and scale up promising methodologies and technologies for local fish farming systems, and to intensify and diversify major production systems where the poor and undernourished are concentrated. The Fish Innovation Lab is one of 24 Feed the Future innovation labs leveraging the expertise of U.S. universities and developing-country research institutions to tackle some of the world's greatest challenges in agriculture and food security.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate project-level communications and updates with subawardees and research teams 2. Write public relations copy for success stories, websites, social media, brochures, and other materials for print and digital dissemination 3. Create graphics for use in success stories, website, social media, and other outlets 4. Assist with event planning and hosting virtual and in-person events, such as lectures, webinars, and conference booths 5. Serve as primary communications liaison to project teams, including researchers based in the US and in other countries 6. Assist with the coordination of the communications activities for the Fish Innovation Lab. 7. Increase the visibility of the Fish Innovation Lab at MSU and among other universities, government agencies, and allied institutions through announcements of accomplishments, opportunities, events, and so forth 8. Take direction from the communications manager to assist with the print and digital publications of the Fish Innovation Lab, ranging from brochures, event fliers, advertisements, annual reports, videos, and more 9. Write a variety promotional items such as press releases, media alerts, articles, features, and brochure copy in order to market and further the mission of the Fish Innovation Lab and promote the lab's projects and activities 10. Assist with the content creation for the Fish Innovation Lab website, as well as other sites that run lab content 11. Assist with the social media of the Fish Innovation Lab 12. Electronic imaging, editing and design of presentation graphics and publications. 13. Arranging photo shoots in coordination with photographers, as well as managing internal photo library 14. Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree with a focus in Communications, English or related field Three years' experience in writing and developing promotional materials and related information Any equivalent combination of education and experience approved by the Department of Human Resources Management
1. Intermediate to advanced experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office in a Macintosh environment 2. Excellent knowledge of news writing styles and ability to adapt to various style guides 3. Familiar with basic html code and working within a content management system 4. Experience with digital photography 5. Experience with video production 6. Design skills and experience with producing print materials
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Excellent writing and editing skills * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to work on multiple projects/assignments concurrently and prioritize deadlines * Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple and varied constituencies from different countries and cultures * Superb computer skills
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* Ability to lift 50-100lbs. * Position requires some travel. * Limited exposure to physical risk
