The Terner Center for Housing Innovation formulates bold strategies to house families from all walks of life in vibrant, sustainable, and affordable homes and communities. Established in 2015, the Terner Center has quickly become a leading voice in identifying, developing, and advancing innovative public sector solutions to achieve broader housing affordability for communities across the country. We produce timely and rigorous research designed to shape housing development practice, finance, and policy at the local, state, and national level.
The Resource Development and Strategic Planning Coordinator supports the Center's research, policy, and innovation agenda and contributes to the team's fundraising priorities by focusing on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and funders. The position reports to the Managing Director. Responsibilities include strategic planning support, developing materials for the Center's funding proposals, organizing related programs and projects; and tracking the performance of the program on a regular schedule.
35% Resource and Strategic Planning:
Support Managing Director (and consultant as needed) to develop a 3-year strategic plan that includes resource requirements for all activities in the plan.
Participate in short- and long-range strategic planning, coordinating fundraising processes and tracking for the team
In consultation with Managing Director and leadership, create a detailed implementation plan for resource development and manage/execute its components.
30% Project Management:
Assist in the development and submission of high-level proposals (including grants and consulting contracts), presentations, site visits, board meetings, and other special events to meet key fundraising objectives.
Coordinate with Administrative Officer to draft budgets for proposals.
Develop and design materials in collaboration with communications and research team, including proposals, agendas, briefings, background information, slide deck presentations, and tailored correspondence for major donors and prospects.
Timely development, review and submission of all grant reports.
15% Research & Data Analysis:
Provide weekly reports on fundraising goals (tracking gifts to solicit and close, year-to-date totals, etc.).
Track incoming revenue from all sources (gifts, grants, contracts, etc.)
Ensure that recorded donor data and designations are accurate and complete.
Conduct or obtain research on individuals and companies to identify/qualify new donors or support proposal development.
Research and analyze metrics to illustrate fundraising-program trends, impact of activities, and results.
10% Donor Relations:
Respond to inquiries from donors, event attendees, and the public.
Draft donor correspondence, assist with gift acknowledgements, and stewardship.
Coordinate Managing Director and leadership in interactions with Advisory Board.
10% Event Planning & Execution:
In collaboration with Communications Coordinator and other colleagues, assist with special events (including luncheons, dinners, small receptions, and high-level board meetings), sometimes as the lead event planner.
Play a central role in supporting complex major events, (including programs and receptions for major donors, large conferences, public lectures, etc.).
Attend major events, both to assist in their execution and to meet and cultivate donors who attend.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in fundraising and donor development.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to build and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
Demonstrated relationship management abilities.
Knowledge and understanding of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgeting and financial reporting.
Ability to work with Fund Development/Client Management software.
Thorough knowledge of computer and database systems, to facilitate research, extract meaningful data for program analysis, and prepare documents and presentation materials.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution.
Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy.
Working knowledge of University systems
Experience working with non-profit of similar size and scale
Eagerness to be part of growing team in sometimes fast-paced/demanding environment
