Delivers comprehensive management consulting in the areas of healthcare technology, robotics, and life sciences with the Center's small business clients, usually resulting in a written recommendation consisting of business plans, pitches, ROI etc. For the improvement of and further development of ideas, prototypes, inventions and/or ideas. Performs other duties related to the Center's mission and in further development of Technology Commercialization and of the mission of the SBDC as requested. *The Grant is funded for one year but is expected to be extended for multiple years.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consults with the Center's small business clients at the SBDC offices, at its outreach offices and at clients' businesses.
Maintains client files as prescribed by the SBA using the personal computer as a consulting tool as well as the SBA client database/CRM and reporting system.
Performs specialized consulting work in the areas identified for small businesses as specified under the Center's contracts with government agencies, chambers of commerce, accelerators, maker spaces and economic development agencies.
Links and preferably have contacts with business financing institutions and other referral sources to recruit clients who require and will apply for large capital loans for expansion or startup opportunities.
Serves as a liaison to the technology community in order to link budding entrepreneurs to resources and funding.
Speaks at the Center's management training seminars, when requested.
Participates in functions that promote Center publicity (i.e. trade shows, meetings, speaking engagements) etc.
Manages and/or consult in special project(s) as assigned by the Director.
Attends professional development programs to update and enhance skills.
Becomes actively involved in the regions technology communities as well as serving as a representative from the SBDC to various technology fairs and idea generating accelerators.
Educate and advise clients on how to commercialize new technologies and start companies based on following network consulting policies and procedures.
Performs one-on-one advice and consulting to be provided include: R&D funding opportunities, market feasibility, commercialization processes, and intellectual.
Presents technology commercialization materials and educational programs as appropriate and when requested to do so focusing on the steps needed to be taken by entrepreneurs in order to take an idea, invention and or prototype to full commercialization.
Outreach to educate clients, partners, and stakeholders on SBDC services and impact.
Contributes to knowledge creation and dissemination through communicating with peers and participating in network activities.
Periodic Travel throughout PA in order to serve the needs of other Centers/Clients in the PA SBDC State Network in order to bring such level of knowledge and expertise to these constituents and to promote the Center of Excellence.
Develops workshops/presentations on technology commercialization with emphasis in healthcare, life sciences and robotics to be offered to both Center Clients and throughout the PA SBDC Network.
Assists with School of Business special projects as requested.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, MIS and/or Economics with emphasis on investment or a related technological field is a must.
Master’s Degree preferred.
Work experience of at least three or more years in technology development, technology business plan/pitch development and/or analysis and return on investment (ROI).
Knowledge of the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Grant Agencies is highly desirable.
Knowledge of entrepreneurship and technology commercialization issues.
Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and listening skills.
Knowledge of business and strategic planning, market research and capital acquisition.
Ability to manage large client portfolio, strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to network effectively with partners and stakeholders.
Proficient digital technology skills and ability to use CRM and other SBA databases to enter data and generate reports.
Stellar ability to develop and critique business plans as well as produce and interpret cash flow projections.
Involvement in and or familiarity with monetary awards to take concept to prototype is a plus.
Ability to travel/use of an automobile and a valid license.
Small business ownership/experience preferably in a technology business is desirable.
