Job Summary: The hospice controller is responsible for preparing, coordinating and managing the transaction accounting and asset accounting functions of the hospice, including general ledger management, accounts payable management, budget preparation, payroll management, cost reporting, financial reporting budgeting and analysis.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages all daily accounting operations and accounting information systems including general ledger functions, accounts payable functions, accounts receivable, payroll functions, asset accounting and financial reporting.
Ensures financial record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards and in compliance with state, federal and CHAP accreditation standards.
Protects the assets of the organization through effective internal controls, internal auditing, and direct supervision of accounting operations.
Manages organization’s bank functions in coordination with the CFO
Manages and controls cash disbursements through an effective accounts payable system.
Prepares and files monthly financial statements, balance sheets and period financial statements for internal users authorized third parties and regulatory agencies on an ongoing basis.
Gathers, collects and reports key performance indicators through the effective utilization of information systems.
Assists in preparation and maintains on an ongoing basis the annual budget and prepares budget variation reports.
Monitors financial performance of each location reports variances to senior management based on designated reporting schedule.
Provides suggestions in strategic financial planning including identifying opportunities for improved fiscal viability.
Manages payroll practices and assures compliance with state and federal regulations, including wages, salaries and benefit regulations and processes bi-monthly payroll.
Oversees the preparation of all applicable federal, state and local taxes.
Ensures protocols and guidelines set for financial office are followed.
Prepares all requested documentation for annual internal and external audits.
Assists in preparation and oversees the overall preparation of the annual Medicare cost report.
Assists in preparation and oversees the overall preparation of the annual Medicare CAP reports.
Recruits, selects and orients new personnel and coordinates in-service education as appropriate.
Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Maintains patient/client, employee and hospice confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications and Experience:
Has Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred.
Has at least three (3) years experience in Healthcare Accounting management preferably and/or Public Accounting . Information systems knowledge required.
Demonstrates an ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
Has knowledge of corporate business management, governmental regulations and accreditation standards used in modern accounting and audits.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Demonstrates good communications and public relations skills.
