Under minimal supervision, responsible for managing external communications media relations and internal staff and stakeholder communication on behalf of Denver Health. The role will communicate the mission, vision, values and key strategies of Denver Health to all audiences. Builds a positive reputation for Denver Health via the media, and manages negative issues and crises to minimize or avoid impact to Denver Health. The role is responsible for maintaining excellent relationships with local and national media and proactively working with internal and external parties to communicate positive content in the media. Leads the internal communication for Denver Health to inform and engage staff around strategies, key issues and actions, aligned with the organizational direction. Makes recommendation on strategy and objectives for media relations and internal communications for alignment with the chief of marketing communications, and seeks input from other key stakeholders. Leads execution of agreed plans, and creates standard work and best practice. Highly adept in using a comprehensive range of communications channels to deliver consistent messaging to all stakeholders. Anticipates and reacts to issues with the media and other audiences, and adjusts plans / execution as necessary to achieve goals. Communicates and influences at all level of the organization to gather input, achieve buy-in and socialize strategies and plans. This position supervises Marketing PR staff positions in media relations and internal communications.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree required . Concentration in Marketing, Communications or Public Relations, or related field preferred. 2. Masters' degree preferred. 3. Seven years' experience in healthcare communications and/or news media relations required. 4. Three years' experience in a management role required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Excellent communications skills in writing, presenting and speaking for a range of audiences. 2. Experience in developing and executing a communications strategy. 3. Capability in developing engaging stories and creating a narrative across different communication channels over time. Proven capability in enhancing an organization's reputation by successfully placing content in the media. Knowledge of AP style. 4. Must have well established relationships with representatives of the local, national and health care media, and the interpersonal skills to use these relationships to positively position Denver Health and build its reputation. 5. Excellent judgement in dealing with issues under pressure, when time or information is lacking. 6. Experience and capability in crisis communication: experience in developing and implementing crisis communication strategy and step-by-step process; capability to train executives and staff on crisis communication skills. 7. Goal oriented and experience in using data and research to gain insights and to assess the effectiveness of strategies. 8. Knowledge and experience in managing communication across a range of channels (print, digital, social, TV, radio, events) and across internal and external audiences. 9. Collaborative working style and strong customer orientation with colleagues / outside stakeholders. 10. Experience in working with senior executives and within the health care sector. 11. The ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve goals.
Computers and Technology 1. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. 2. Successful candidates must have up to date familiarity and experience of communication and marketing technology that may include but not be limited to the following: media monitoring tools (Cision, Meltwater or similar), social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc), workflow management software such as Trello or similar, visualization and analytics software such as Domo or similar and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc),
