Job Description Summary: The Communications Specialist will serve as a liaison between Global Marketing and Communications and one of its major clients, the Office of Advancement and will manage projects, including creating printed materials, letters, newsletters, and other digital communications pieces as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, a related field, or equivalent preferred. 2-4 years of communications experience for an organization, business or paid clients. Excellent use of the English language. Attention to detail, strong writing, editing and communications skills. Experience with social media and electronic newsletters. A creative personality with good interpersonal skills, and organizational skills, while working effectively in a team environment; someone who can negotiate approvals diplomatically, and maintain composure under pressure. Someone who understands how to manage a client relationship and work as a liaison between the client and a creative team.
Preferred Qualifications More than 5 years of experience working in the communications field. Experience with various digital content management systems.
Essential Duties Serves as one of two project managers for requests from the Office of Advancement, and other departments, along with other writing and project management duties as assigned as part of the mission of the Department of Strategic Communications. Creates microchannel and omnichannel communications campaigns for major alumni engagement and donor solicitation projects, including but not limited to: Homecoming & Alumni Weekend, Giving Tuesday, Give STL Day, and other events and projects needed by the Office of Advancement. Implements and executes the writing, editing, design, production, and distribution for a variety of printed materials and digital media, including but not limited to: brochures, fact sheets, donor reports, solicitation materials, invitations, programs, scripts, e-mails and social media posts. Coordinates and collaborates on a content calendar for Alumni Relations social media accounts, the Alumni Relations e-newsletter, the Chancellors newsletter and other projects. Coordinates a content calendar for a donor stewardship e-newsletter. Assists with content editing and distribution of alumni- and donor-focused e-mails and e-newsletters. Acts as a brand steward, upholding brand standards and consistency in all projects. Acts as proofing editor to ensure readability and to detect and correct errors on spelling, punctuation and syntax. Writes and edits letters for the Chancellor and various departments within the Office of Advancement as needed. Coordinates collaborations with other departments and university staff to gather stories and conduct interviews. Maintains the client relationship between GMC (Global Marketing and Communications) and the Office of Advancement as directed by the Senior Director of Communications. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Communications and the Chief Communications Officer.
