Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSELead development, marketing and delivery of the Levin Center's state oversight training program including working with national legislative service organizations to advance the program. Lead the Levin Center's social and traditional media outreach efforts by writing and editing op-eds, blog posts and other communications and by working with colleagues to build the Levin Center's list-serves, social following and other media lists. Support the development of a state oversight research agenda. Reports to Director.This is a grant funded position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONManage implementation of the State and Local Oversight Training Program including development of training curriculum, development of prospects and marketing of Program to state and local governments, fostering partnerships with legislative service organizations, coordinating training and managing contract trainers; and help manage and expand student-related oversight programs at the state level, Including developing materials, fostering partnerships with the Michigan Youth in Government and other YMCA state programs.Lead implementation of the Center's marketing and communications strategy by drafting and managing the Center's blog, drafting and editing op-eds, social media posts and other communications and by building the Center's list-serves, social media following and other media lists.Support Center's efforts to develop oversight as an academic discipline by assisting with outreach to oversight scholars, development of conferences, development of oversight-related courses and creation of partnerships with universities.Work with Associate Director and other Center staff to develop Center's state-related research agenda, collaborating with Wayne Law, Wayne State University and other faculty to explore research opportunities.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONRequires a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, History, Economics, English or other liberal arts, H.R. Development, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field. Master's degree, JD or PhD preferred.EXPERIENCERequires 5 years experience developing and implementing programs and building stakeholder support for programs, conducting and/or analyzing academic research and scholarship in law, political science, public policy, economics or related fields.Professional experience with state legislatures or the state legislative process and, preferably, at the federal level. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESKnowledge of the legislative process at the state level and, preferably, federal level. Highly skilled in oral and written communication and proficient in the use of traditional as well as social media to communicate ideas and to brand and market the Levin Center's state oversight training program and other programs. Ability to work with state legislative leaders and staff and legislative service organizations to identify their needs and shape program offerings that can improve legislatures' oversight capacity and performance.
