The University Center for International Studies at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Director of Global Communications to effectively connect the work of UCIS to the Pitt community, the city, and the world.
The senior management position will: - Manage the overall efforts of marketing and communications within UCIS; measuring effectiveness along the way - Create breathtaking content across multiple channels to share the UCIS mission to globalize Pitt - Strategize efficiently with UCIS leadership to plan and execute comprehensive communications for campus-wide, internationally-related events - Build fervor about UCIS mission to relevant audiences both on- and off-campus, using an entrepreneurial mindset
The incumbent will have a proven record of designing and implementing communication strategies across a number of channels. Currently, UCIS employs e-marketing, print marketing, direct response marketing, social media, public relations, and collaborations with internal and external partners. This requires a great level of organization, multi-tasking, and internal and external collaboration. To support Pitt's global objectives and goals, the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Building message strategies - Developing the branding effort - Implementing all day-to-day communication efforts - Designing, executing, and measuring strategic internal and external communications programs - Writing media and communications materials and messages - Drafting crisis management messages - Collaborating with the University of Pittsburgh Communications team
Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field. Masters Degree preferred. at least 9 years of related communications experience in a leadership role, ideally in an academic setting, covering areas such as website content, newsletters, and donor communications. Ability to take complex information and communicate it in exciting and useful messages, disseminating it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels. Highly collaborative style. Experience developing and implementing communications strategies. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills.
Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently. Relationship builder, with the flexibility and finesse to manage by influence. High energy, maturity, and leadership skills with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels. Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, University leaders, parents, donors, national and international media, and others. Self-starter and entrepreneurial.
The capacity and drive to create and implement new initiatives are absolutely critical. Knowledge of the academic environment and faculty culture. Knowledge of international and global education/engagement strongly preferred
