The Director of Administration provides operational and administrative leadership for all elements of the Dining and Culinary department including sales, human resources, project management, and finance and administration. The Director is responsible for identifying, creating and implementing solutions to improve interdepartmental communications, customer service delivery, and information processing. In collaboration and support of the Assistant Vice President of Dining Services, the Director of Administration will be responsible for leading, developing and implementing the department's goals.
In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and Senior Staff, the Director oversees the development of strategic plans for all services offered in Dining and Culinary Center to increase sales and customer satisfaction; ensures execution of such plans. Creates and implements service policies, programs and systems to support the strategic direction and financial goals of the department of Dining and Culinary Center
Oversees and implements the strategies, both long and short range, for all services in Dining and Culinary Center. Participates in the planning and executing of large special events.
Collect and analyze internal data: sales data, customer demographics, historical trends, promotion effectiveness. Oversees and provides direction for the collection of competitive product and pricing information. Recommends sales and pricing strategies based on the competitor's analysis.
Actively seeks and evaluates new business opportunities and/or business tools including technology resources to continuously improve the services provided to guests at Columbia.
Technology and Training
Working with IT Provides department-wide direction for improvement in all areas where technology can make the team operationally efficient.
Identify opportunities to upgrade systems and innovate for customer satisfaction
Collaborates with the Senior Management team to assess and develop the annual training program for Managers and Associates.
Work with Marketing to assess social media and marketing practices and their effectiveness.
Human Resources and Leadership Development
Work closely with Finance and Administration (Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, and Information Technology) and other internal departments to support employee communications, projects and events that are aligned with the divisions "Vision and Values".
Proactively identifies opportunities to foster and promote positive employee relations, which contribute to the division's strategic goals and direction.
Leads with HR to facilitate the Labor Management process including; training and development of labor relations and serves as the lead officer to address departmental grievances.
Oversees the performance evaluation process, to enhance staff performance through professional development activities, the development of clearly stated objectives, and the use of training and performance appraisal mechanisms. Identifies high-potential staff and collaborates with Human Resources to create a professional development plan for those identified as high-potential to enable succession planning and career development.
Is the internal support to the department reviewing weekly and monthly profit and loss statements. Works with the Senior Operational Team to improve profitability without sacrificing quality
Analyzes processes in place for invoices and inventory and develops systems to improve the internal processes
Develops systems using Maximo to file and track work orders and invoices
Submits and represents the department on capital project requests
Serves as lead representative for capital projects
Bachelor's Degree is required.
Minimum 7 years of related work experience is required.
Demonstrated skills in problem assessment and resolution as well as collaborative problem solving in a complex, interdisciplinary setting required.
Management experience in a higher education setting along with the ability to encourage innovative change highly desired.
Must possess excellent communication skills with evidence of successful leadership skills and administrative/supervisory experience.
Operations experience in a university or not-for-profit setting a plus.
