The Department of Communication Arts at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) invites applicants for a three-year visiting assistant professor position beginning July 1, 2020.
Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate degree (ABD) or have completed an MFA at time of appointment. The department offers a BA in Communication Arts with emphases in media studies, public relations, and theatre. The department also maintains the college's theatre production program and an FCC-licensed radio station, WNJR. The successful candidate will teach courses including radio history/industry/production, public speaking, and possibly new courses in Social Media Campaigns or Audio/Podcast Production, as well as work as the General Manager of WNJR. The successful candidate will be a creative and collegial scholar in our liberal arts environment, with a commitment to teaching and advising undergraduates and developing and maintaining an active scholarly research agenda. The standard teaching load for college faculty is six courses per year. For this position, however, the load is four courses since the position requires the fulfilling of duties as the General Manager of WNJR. Expertise in radio production and management is required, so candidates with practical work experience in radio and/or media are desired. The successful candidates will also engage in academic advising, service to the academic community, and departmental citizenship, as we all work to advance the college's mission.
