Helps develop and execute a communications strategy to expand and improve external and internal communications for the University.
Works closely with University leadership, campus faculty and administrators, students, donors and alumni to produce stories and profiles that increase awareness, drive enrollment and foster greater engagement from internal and external stakeholders.
Produces a variety of communication pieces such as internal e-newsletters, fact sheets, the Presidentâ™s Annual Report, Jaguars in the Spotlight and Campus News on the website, and other promotional materials as needed.
Assists with long-range editorial planning and strategy for University Communications needs, providing consistency of messaging across all channels.
Prepares, reviews and edits news releases and updates media guide.
Acts as a liaison between external media, student newspaper and campus personnel; works with faculty to develop and update Faculty Experts Guide; contacts appropriate personnel after receiving interview requests from media; handles reactive media requests for information as needed; proactively pitches subject matters experts to local, regional, higher-ed and national media outlets.
Provides faculty, staff and University leadership with media training and other key messages to support media interview
Manages part-time student worker(s) who is dedicated to researching and writing people profiles and other stories for various publications, digital channels and the website.
Researches and writes speeches for the University President and other Cabinet members for various internal and external events.
Participates on various committees to assist in event planning and promotion.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree and five years of communications and/or marketing experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in English, Journalism or related field.
Experience writing speeches for high-level administrators, leading media relations efforts and developing communications and/or marketing strategy in a higher-ed setting.
