The Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools (NYU Metro Center) at New York University seeks a qualified candidate for the role of Director of Communications. We seek an individual with a strong foundation in media production, digital communication, internal/external communications, media management, marketing, editing, and publications. The ideal candidate will have experience performing cutting edge communication tasks in the following sub areas: experience architecture and user experience; digital and social media; writing, editing, layout and design, professional printing/publishing; and web design and management.
The applicant must have demonstrated interest in issues of equity and social justice, preferably in education (e.g., culturally responsive education, anti-racist education, trauma informed practices, Response To Intervention, restorative justice), privileging a strengths-based framework in her or his philosophy. The applicant must be interested in managing a team (or teams) of student assistants and other key administrative duties (see below).

The Director of Communications is a full-time professional position. The position works in collaboration with the executive director and other Metro Center administrators. The position is supervised and evaluated by the executive director. On-going educational and professional development opportunities will be provided.
The Director of Communications will shape, manage, and drive the implementation of an effective outreach and communications campaign to cultivate community support and capacity building, while managing Metro Center's internal/external communications activities including advertising, marketing, media relations, and so on (see above). The Director of Communications will also oversee communications programs that effectively describe and promote Metro Center, its programs, and its products, suggesting promotional campaign ideas in various types of media to Metro Center administrators on effective communication strategies.
Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:
Development and implementation of cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies to communicate with a range of constituencies through printed and electronic media
Create, write, edit and produce press releases, publications, videos, exhibits, and printed materials, including annual reports, and
Update and maintain organization's website, on-line publications, and social media.
In addition to the items detailed above, the successful candidate should have:
At least 3-5 years of communications/publication relations experience
A bachelor's degree or higher in English, journalism, marketing, communication, professional/technical writing, experience architecture, or an equivalent field
Demonstrate excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to manage timelines and project budgets effectively
Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent computer skills, with regular use of word processing, web editing, design and layout software, salesforce database, and so on
Experience with website and newsletter production and message development
Ability to work well with diverse individuals and balance a variety of needs
