The Social Media Director is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of strategies and plans related to increasing Wellesley’s social media audience and engagement among the College’s key stakeholders (prospective students, students, alumnae, and key influencers). She/he is tasked with creating digital content—optimized per platform—to enhance share of voice, increase brand recognition, build community, and engage alumnae. This requires strong creative and editorial skills; a deep understanding of social and digital platforms and and a deep commitment to women’s education and empowerment.
As the Director shapes and stewards, the College’s institutional social presence, she analyzes content performance and stays on top of trends and best practices. The Director also monitors the College’s social channels to both identify key stories and conversations to engage with — and also serves as part of the team that organizes the College’s response to any significant and/or controversial issue. She serves as C&PA’s liaison to the Colleges’ emergency communications planning and implementation.
The Social Media Director reports to the Director of Digital Marketing and Communications and works closely with the Digital Content Director to support the high quality creative output of the Communications and Public Affairs (C&PA) group.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Wellesley College’s primary social media channels including setting strategy and goals, managing the editorial calendar, assessing performance and optimizing strategies. Oversees social media policy and guidelines
Monitor social conversation for news, highlights, and issues. Report and respond as necessary
Develop story ideas and create dynamic content that provides a window into the College’s academic and cultural life and promotes Wellesley as an educational leader and an advocate for women’s empowerment.
Collaborate with C&PA colleagues on editorial direction and determining the most effective way to promote and share stories, lend social copy-writing skills to headline writing
Partner with digital content director to mentor and manage a team of student content creators
Serve as a College-wide resource by providing social media support and recommendations and sharing best practices with community members. Lead regular social media user group meetings
Represent the C&PA group on the College’s emergency management team, supporting communications and advising the Senior Director of Communications and Chief Communication Officer as needed in crisis and emergency situations
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3-5 year proven track record in managing and supporting social accounts
Expert knowledge of social media trends and best practices for organic and paid posts
Ability to analyze key performance metrics; experience with native social analytics
Excellent understanding of and appreciation for the College's mission
Commitment to a strategic approach to marketing plans and creative work
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, and Illustrator
Strong writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail
Ability to set and abide by project deadlines; ability to prioritize projects; experience managing both urgent, short-term projects and complex, longer-term projects
Ability to work and collaborate with a variety of constituencies including various College departments, students, and outside vendors/contributors
Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and analytical/problem-solving skills are required, along with a high degree of flexibility
