ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is looking for an individual with an interest in health policy to join our team that supports ASTRO’s advocacy efforts dealing with coding development and guidance, private insurers and Medicare coverage issues.
Major responsibilities will include researching and synthesizing information in order to provide general support for our Code Utilization and Application committee meetings, assisting with the development of CPT code applications, researching coding questions and projects such as working on updates to the ASTRO Radiation Oncology Coding Resource, coordinating the ASTRO Coding and Coverage Seminar, and payer education.
As the Health Policy Coordinator, this individual will oversee and coordinate the receipt, tracking and development of responses to radiation oncology coding questions received from physicians, the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Contractor Medical Directors, managed care companies, and other sources. The individual will also lead all efforts to update the ASTRO Radiation Oncology Coding Resource on a semi-annual basis.
Successful candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, in a related field preferred.
Minimum of two years of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with extensive experience working with Excel.
Experience and proficiency in researching and synthesizing information; experience with association management systems, membership databases, abstract management systems a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong command of grammar and excellent proofreading ability, ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, leadership and members.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and prioritize in order to meet critical deadlines.
A professional, customer-service focused demeanor; be self-directed and have an innate curiosity for seeking out answers to unknown questions.
An interest in healthcare, government or advocacy.
Desired Qualifications include:
AAPC or AHIMA coding certification.
Experience in coding and coverage, including familiarity with reimbursement; knowledge of health insurance and managed care issues.
Knowledge of coding issues.
Experience with medical association or radiation oncology practice.
Familiarity with Medicare regulations.
A passion for researching, digging into information and problem solving.
You enjoy making lists and checking off completed items.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Comfort with technology and updating websites
Strong customer service orientation.
Strong attention to details and open to process improvement.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple projects, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team, while managing multiple tasks and meeting critical deadlines.
