The stewardship officer for individual stewardship in the Office of Donor Relations plays a significant role in fostering a culture of donor-centric stewardship for Cornell's top contributors. Under the direction of the senior director for Donor Relations, the position will help develop and implement a new program of unique as well as broad stewardship plans for discrete populations of the university's most substantive donors. Content will demonstrate the impact of donors' particular philanthropy, build a sense of partnership between the donor and Cornell, and inspire renewed and increased giving.
Responsibilities include: Active collaboration in the development of the strategic vision for a new program of customizable, individual stewardship activities for major gifts donors; development and implementation of tools, systems, and procedures that deliver and record said activities. These will acknowledge and recognize current donors and promote their renewal and increased giving in support of university priorities. Efforts may include but are not limited to small and large events, virtual, digital, and hardcopy content, and opportunities related to Cornell's upcoming comprehensive campaign. The role is also responsible for the Foremost Benefactor program, the university's highest honor in recognition of individual philanthropy.
This position works closely with other programs in Alumni Affairs and Development (AAD) in the most collaborative approach possible involving issues relating to individual donor recognition. Partners include individual giving, colleges and units, Annual Giving Programs, Events Management, Digital, and AAD Brand and Communications.
This position requires some travel.
Bachelor's degree, with 3-5 years' experience in development, alumni affairs, events planning, marketing, or public relations equivalent. Experience in program development and project management is essential.Very detailed oriented, highly motivated. Strong knowledge of the principles and practices, which underlie individual giving. Demonstrated leadership skills, an effective communicator, with a demonstrated ability to work well with a wide variety of individuals, including high-level administrators, members of the faculty, high-level donors/clients, VIPs, and vendors.Ability to effectively represent the university and to work effectively in a team environment with a mix of alumni and colleagues.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be dedicated to providing exceptional customer service for internal and external constituents. Must be able to work under pressure and meet established deadlines.
Background in donor relations, development, alumni affairs, public affairs, customer loyalty programs, marketing, or public relations desirable.Cornell knowledge preferred.Experience with fundraising highly desired.Demonstrated success in program development (from conceptualization, communication/marketing, and implementation) and efficient project management skills.Experience with management and development of events.Mid-range to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and databases is preferred. A valid driver's license is preferred.
