Reporting directly to the University Chief of Police, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator organizes emergency preparedness logistics, liaises with appropriate county, state of NJ and federal partners and the community at large to engage in platforms and interactions in order to comply with emergency management mandates. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator assists the Chief of Police in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the campus; develops training designed to engage University Police and community members in emergency procedures, and maintains professional and progressive relationships with municipal, state, county and federal organizations that further our effort of a unified command.Â This position is responsible to compile all necessary records and data related to Homeland Security and emergency preparedness and provide to University and external partners in incident based situations. The emergency preparedness position ensures that the University is in full compliance with our emergency management goals and serves to fulfill continuous quality control of our formulation and adherence to required preparedness plans.
Assists the Chief of Police in the development and management of the Universityâ™s Emergency Preparedness protocols/program by: developing and recommending goals and strategic plans; designing and delivering training and promotional materials to the campus community; assessingÂ and improving the programâ™s efficacy against established standards, metrics and outcomes; and creating/maintaining policies and procedures that align with institutional needs, goals and standards and comply with federal, state and local mandates.
During actual and simulated emergency situations where the campus emergency plan is activated, plays an operational role in the Incident Command structure as assigned by the Chief of Police or Incident Commander.
Maintains professional and progressive relationships with municipal, County, State and Federal organizations. Establishes and maintains communication and cooperative working relationships with college administrators, faculty, staff, students and student organizations, government and private agencies and/or the public in order to accomplish department objectives. Develops public relations materials supporting the unitâ™s goals and initiatives.
Identifies and makes application for federal, state and local grant opportunities related to emergency preparedness training, supplies and/or assistance.
Gathers, assesses, completes records and data related to progress and emergencies to include State of NJ and federal requirements. Prepares reports on department activities; compiles, summarizes and analyzes statistical and other data and develops findings, conclusions and recommendations. Prepares detailed correspondence.
Develops training and learning communities, and schedules and delivers training to engage department and community members in the field of emergency procedures and the institutionâ™s protocols. Creates programs and promotions designed to effectively communicate the role of emergency procedures and related training.
Prepares, recommends, monitors and revises the emergency preparedness budget and monitors expenditures and revenues related to the unit.
Advises and counsels students, parents and/or alumni regarding departmentâ™s activities and services.
Consults with the Chief to resolve unusual emergency preparedness problems or policy concerns.
Manages staff and work operations, develops performance standards, makes performance evaluations, provides guidance and counsel to staff and approves various personnel actions required within the sections supervised including promotion, hiring, and disciplinary action in accordance with college policies and state regulations.
Maintains integrity and appropriate confidentiality in all departmental operations.
Serves on ad hoc and standing committees as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelorâ™s Degree in a field related to the position, or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
Minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement and emergency coordination, within in a large, complex organization serving a diverse community, or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
Must be certified in the Incident Command System (minimum of 200 level)
Must be certified in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Superior verbal and interpersonal communication skills to effectively train and communicate emergency procedures to emergency services and the community at large.
Must possess a valid NJ Driverâ™s License
Will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation to work in a criminal justice setting.
Extensive experience in law enforcement and emergency coordination within a higher education setting.
