The Holton-Arms Communications Office encourages open dialogue throughout our community in order to foster a healthy environment in which to learn and work. The Communications Office develops and implements clear, consistent, and engaging communication strategies to enhance the Holton Experience for all members of our community and to shape public understanding of Holton-Arms.
The Director of Communications reports to the Head of School and serves as a member of the administrative team. The Director provides strategic direction to and implements the School’s marketing, public relations and communications efforts to all School audiences.

Participate in the creation of a written action plan that documents annual goals and objectives in Communications Office and monitors progress throughout the year
Work and coordinate with other members of the Communications Office as well as the Development and Admissions Offices to accomplish the goals and objectives of those departments
Serve as a point of contact for visitors to the Advancement Center – including faculty, staff, parents, students, alumnae, volunteers, and donors
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Supervise the Director of Digital Media and Databases, Associate Director of Communications, Design & Production Manager, and Athletics Communication Specialist
Guide the creation of a written action plan for each - the Associate Director of Communications, Design & Production Manager, and Athletics Communication Specialist - that documents annual goals and objectives in Communications Office
Monitor progress throughout the year, and conduct an end-of-year evaluation of direct reports
Supervise professional consultants contracted to address communication and marketing goals
Manage the Communications Office Budget
Major areas of responsibility include:
In collaboration with the Head of School, lead crisis communications strategy, monitor media coverage, craft media statements, and write internal communications regarding issues
Serve a key member of the crisis management team
Write and publish (text, email, website page pops) all emergency alerts i.e. weather alerts, shelter in place, lockdowns, etc.
Brand Positioning and Management:
Create and execute a Strategic Branding and Communications Plan in support of the School’s strategic priorities
Execute all aspects of the communications plan for internal and external communities, Development and Admissions
Oversee the major publications material content and production including Doorways, the semi-annual alumnae magazine, and the School’s digital annual report
Collaborate with Director of Digital Media and Databases to direct the School website as a key communications medium
Collaborate with Associate Director of Communications to direct the School’s social media and digital news as a key communications medium
Ensure that all internal and external written and spoken communications are consistent with the message framework
Monitor the School’s editorial and graphic standards policies, ensuring that all publications carrying the school name and logo make a positive impression
Media and Advertising:
Serve as media contact for the School and work with School community to determine appropriate opportunities for media cooperation and/or outreach
Establish relationships through consistent communication with print, television, radio and social media contacts for increased visibility for the School
Create and execute advertising plan for Admissions with an emphasis on social media and SEO
7+ years of experience in marketing and communications with independent schools or nonprofit organizations
Outstanding organizational and presentation skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to effectively lead, manage, and inspire a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment with multiple creative projects
Creative and artistic vision and direction
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and management of design production
Demonstrated experience with photography, videography, website content management and design, and social media marketing
Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver
Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented manager with a dedication to meeting deadlines
