Job Summary / Basic Function Job Summary: The Director of Human Resources contributes to the mission of faculty and staff excellence. This position will manage on-boarding and exiting of employees, and is responsible for investigating grievance and discipline issues of employees. This position is also responsible for compliance training and the implementation of on-campus professional development initiatives for all levels of employees in conjunction with the Teaching and Learning Center. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and Operations as a Director but the President has direct oversight of this position.
Major Essential Job Functions:
Achieve TSUS Vision 2020 in Excellence to focus on recruiting of faculty talent.
Employee relations; and grievance and disciplinary procedures related to classified employees:
Manages employee relations to enhance productivity and performance.
Oversee the employee performance evaluations process.
Maintains compliance training for all employees with the Teaching and Learning Center.
Prepares and distributes electronic employee communications; such as professional development opportunities and follow up announcements to campus community.
Onboarding of employees including verification of hiring packets and review of hiring practices followed by supervisors.
Exiting of employees after termination of employment.
Facilitating benefit options for new employees and current employees during summer enrollment.
Design performance management system.
Manage Adjunct pool
Liaison between human resources and payroll; via shared services agreement.
Work with internal and external auditors on policy and compliance.
Review and revise LIT Policy and Procedures Manual.
Lead HR projects such as online time tracking and online hiring documents
Other Duties as Assigned: Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the Institute.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education Required: Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Required: At least five years of Human Resources with experience in grievance and discipline issues of employees. Preferred 3 years supervisory experience.
Certification(s) Required: PHR or within a year of employment.
Key Competencies: Knowledge of the principles and practice of HR Management. Knowledge of laws, statutes, and regulations related to HR Management. Strong customer service orientation, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail. Ability to take direction, initiative and work proactively in a team environment. Ability to interact with all levels of staff diplomatically with professional discretion and confidentiality and high ethical standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access). Banner and People Admin preferred. Ability to work and communicate effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, staff, faculty, business and industry officials, and the general public.
