Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSEAssist in the development and execution of innovative plans and strategies that engage alumni and students in meaningful ways, generate affinity, loyalty and enthusiasm for the School of Medicine (SOM) and provide purposeful cultivation and stewardship opportunities for donors.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWork in conjunction with the Director of Alumni Affairs and the Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs to implement and sustain a robust alumni program for the School of Medicine alumni and supporters. Participate in the planning, implementation and promotion of alumni programs, networking and reunion events.Facilitate the WSU Medical Alumni Association membership campaign. Collaborate with the membership committee of the SOM Alumni Board to develop and implement strategies to increase membership and improve member retention. Engage alumni volunteers to expand the School of Medicine's outreach and network with medical alumni.Coordinate alumni/student engagement activities including HOST (Help Our Students Travel), Dinner with a Doc, Future Docs, Medical Specialty lunches, Learning Community dinners, shadowing, and recent alumni and resident alumni programs. Collaborate with the SOM Office of Student Affairs, Board of Student Organizations and Student Ambassadors to ensure meaningful engagement opportunities for alumni and students.Responsible for the coordination of SOM alumni merchandise sales including merchandise orders, inventory, safeguards and deposits.Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive alumni communications plan (e-newsletter, web site and social media) to reach and inspire the SOM alumni population. Work closely with the School of Medicine's Marketing and Communications team to align strategies, communications and programming.Gain a thorough understanding of all SOM alumni constituencies to ensure plans and events are developed and implemented to meet the needs and interests of medicine alumni. Develop strategies to improve alumni data integrity.Remain current with medical school alumni relations and alumni association trends; serve as a resource on successful activities, alumni engagement techniques and methods.Prepare project/event budgets and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONBachelor's degreeGraduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field. Knowledge of fundraising software programs preferred.Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures preferred.EXPERIENCEExperienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)Qualified candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience as a marketing, event management or customer service professional. Higher education development or alumni relations experience preferred.Direct experience with creating and maintaining effective alumni programs. Experience using social media preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCOMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage and execute multiple creative projects in various media, often at the same time. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferrably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
