Head Men's Soccer Coach

Responsibilities include oversight, execution, and management of Kansas City Athletics Division I Men’s Soccer team. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Recruiting: identifies prospective student-athletes whom are qualified for admission to a strong academic environment at UMKC; effectively communicates with prospective student-athletes; effectively communicates and coordinates recruitment efforts. This position will initiate and drive scouting and recruitment of student-athletes, for both on-campus and off-campus visits. Coaching/Student-Athlete Experience: Must have experience as a coach or athlete in soccer and demonstrates strong knowledge of sport skills, strategies and philosophy; promotes student-athlete welfare and provides appropriate mentoring to student-athletes and assistant coaches. Ability to effectively teach and coach students in both a team and individual setting. Coaches student-athletes, to include evaluating their performance in both practice and competition, and providing leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies, as required; monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes in conjunction with the strength & conditioning coaches and athletic training staff; participate in public relations activities, as approved, to include granting interviews with newspapers, radio and television media, attending press conferences and making public appearances; development of schedules for practice and competition; cooperate with all coaches and administrative staff in order to enhance overall departmental performance. Administrative: operates within all University, Western Athletic Conference (WAC)/Summit League and NCAA Division I guidelines; responsible for the coordination of all practice schedules; monthly community service events, assist with maintaining equipment inventory, assist with carrying out team travel demands according to department and University policies and procedures; effectively communicates with the Assistant Coaches and Athletics staff on matters pertaining to the soccer program, maintains and engages in upholding student-athlete welfare, ability to engage team members in academic accountability, upholds academic integrity, disciplinary and/or personal matters; a commitment to providing a positive role model and leadership to the team as well as excellent communication skills are required. Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the University and its programs, personnel, and philosophies.
