The University of Texas Permian Basin invites applicants for the position of Director, Sports Information. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the incumbent will ensure comprehensive coverage of the intercollegiate athletics program in local, regional, and national print, as well as on electronic and social media. The primary responsibility of the Director, Sports Information will be to maintain a strong relationship between the UTPB Department of Athletics and the media.
Assume primary responsibility for coverage of assigned sport programs, to include: staffing home and away contests; providing general media services, statistics, media guides, press and feature releases; and direct game day efforts
Supervise the publicity efforts for all intercollegiate sports sponsored by the University. Serve as media coordinator for all conference and NCAA championships hosted by the Institution
Direct the design, layout, and editing for all media guides for assigned sports and the football game program. Assist with the design and layout of other printed materials
Compile, organize, and archive statistics and records, as appropriate
Arrange interviews between coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and media. Host all Department of Athletics press conferences
Nominate and promote All-American, All Region, All-Conference and other applicable honors for assigned sports
Function in a manner as to relieve the Director of Athletics of duties assigned.
Continuously apprise the Director of Athletics of all activities and plans within the department

SCHEDULE: This is an exempt position with an expected work schedule of Monday through Friday. As an exempt employee, your schedule may vary based on the number of hours needed to meet the job responsibilities. The individual holding this position will need to be available early morning, evening and weekends to meet the needs of the Department.

Bachelor’s Degree with work experience in athletics media relations or a closely related sports public relations field; equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted, as appropriate
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts
Exceptional interpersonal communications skills to include demonstrated, successful current writing experience
Computer experience with Macintosh and PC computers using In-Design/Quark and Microsoft Word, and IBM platform stat programs required
Possession of an unencumbered driver’s license and the ability to travel locally and nationally for University business
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
