General Summary: Under the general direction of the Development Director, the Grant Manager is responsible for the overall success of grant support from government, corporate, foundation, civic/community, and faith organizations for Capital Campaign and Annual Fund activities. The Grant Manager also supervises the Grant Writer position in support of these goals. In addition, this position provides writing support for materials and supplemental activities as needed.
Overview: Reporting to the Development Director, the Grant Manager plans and executes grant writing and proposals. The Grant Manager will also pay particular attention to fostering relationships with new funders, especially government sources, faith based entities, corporations, and foundations. Through the use of detail-oriented organization, strong research skills, proficiency of technology, and strong written and oral communication skills, this position will enable JOURNEYS | The Road Home to reach its Capital Campaign fund-raising goals and continue to strengthen and build new strong community relationships continuing past the Campaign.
GRANT WRITING | 80% a. Prepare campaign grant proposals with the support of the development team b. Research new funding opportunities, and review opportunities with Development Director c. Keep organized and detailed donor files for all grants written d. Coordinate with Development Department to review potential funding sources e. Supply timely grant reports to the Director of Development and donors as requested f. Provide data analysis of Campaign grant activities, for external and internal use g. Provide support for Annual Fund grant requests as needed
MARKETING | 10% a. Assist the Development Director with creating public relations and marketing materials such as brochures, press releases, regional overviews, e-blasts, and annual reports for Capital campaign b. Write content materials for quarterly newsletters and appeals c. Interface with other grant writers through selected membership organizations as well as at workshops and networking meetings
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS | 10% a. Keep an organized and detailed grants calendar to assure that grants are being put out on a consistent basis to meet overall goals of Campaign and Annual Fund b. Supervise daily work of Grant Writer position c. Implement fund raising goals as directed by the Development Director d. Administrative Assistance to the Director of Development including research

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago areas. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
1. Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Education, English, Communications, Journalism or related field 2. Two years experience in grant writing and planning 3. About JOURNEYS | The Road Home
JOURNEYS | The Road Home provides shelter and social services to the homeless and near homeless in 37 communities in the north & northwest suburbs of Cook County. In the past year, we provided almost 1000 clients with assistance. Comprehensive services and programs are available year-round at our HOPE Center. Shelter is available seven nights a week from October 1 to April 30 at 18 locations throughout our service area, and five nights a week during the summer.
