The Content Director sets the content strategy for the University, including publications, web, social, video and interactive. The position serves as editor in chief of the University magazine and is a contributing editor, writer and producer across institutional channels and media.
In collaboration with the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the Director of Executive and Strategic Communications and other senior communicators, set the editorial direction and vision and content strategy for the University based on leadership’s institutional vision and priorities.
Serve as the editor in chief of Saint Joseph’s University magazine, setting the editorial tone, direction and standard; the story mining process; and the design direction.
Oversee all publications and content being produced by the Office of Marketing and Communications, across formats and channels – from printed publications and e-newsletters to web and multimedia storytelling.
Use keen news sense and storytelling abilities to increase and enhance readership/viewership/listenership of the University’s content internally and externally.
Engage in real-time, mid-term and long-term editorial planning and development; quality control; adherence to best practices; and awareness and implementation of new trends and practices.
Write feature, news and other stories to advance the University’s storytelling practices.
Help set key performance indicators (KPIs) for content and lead measurement and reporting efforts.
Manage relationships with a diverse team of editors, writers, producers, photographers, graphic designers, and other creatives, both in house and freelance, to ensure the highest quality and most compelling, channel-appropriate content.
Write and edit marketing content for the University’s web channels.
Support writing and editing efforts, as needed, for marketing collateral.
Project-manage special projects that are designed to communicate and promote the tenets of the University’s strategic plan.
Qualifications: (Education/Training and Experience Required)
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or related field.
At least 10 years of experience serving as editorial director, editor in chief, managing editor or content director of a widely recognized outlet or organization, with deep multi-media editorial and content experience
Strong ability to set editorial standards in traditional and emerging media
Ability to project-manage and collaborate with a large and diverse team of editors, writers and producers
Proven ability to write compelling features, columns and other stories
Master’s degree in journalism, English or related field
Experience with top-tier media outlets and organizations
Experience in covering complex subjects
